Hello, been looking for a Liberty to fix up / swap engine / etc. as a spare vehicle. Now I went and done it so I'll be searching this site often I'm sure.
The story of this 2004 3.7 4x4 is the oil light came on and engine started knocking. Oil change didn't help so it was parked 2 years ago. Recently a can of Seafoam and a short drive didn't help but the noise went away for a second, then came back. Noise sounds like it is from the passenger side valve cover. Sounds like more than one lifter knocking.
My plan is to remove the front axle, pull off the oil pan and look for sludge on the oil screen and for loose bearings or scratches on the cylinder walls. Or I could check oil pressure somehow to verify the problem first.
Sounds easy doesn't it?
