I am planning on installing an OX locker in the rear of my 2003 KJ. I was tempted to install one in the front diff as well, but OX doesn't sell one for it, they state no Ox lockers for aluminum diffs. I assume because it's considered too weak. I don't run my stuff hard and mainly just want one in the front for the, O #### I did it this time moments, which thankfully are rare. At any rate is there anything else out there that could be used that is normally unlocked similar to the OX? I'd install one anyway if it would fit but I'm sure that's not possible. Thanks!

Carriers between the more common dana 30 that's in many of the Wranglers will fit. The covers are different though.

The powertrax no-slip is another candidate front or rear. I had it in the front for a few years - I liked it, her not so much.

Do you happen to know if it's a drop in or does it require some fabrocobbling?

according to their website at the time and the email I received from them this doesn't fit, but it's been in there for years now.

No-slip is a lunchbox style, truly drop in. Spider gears out, locker goes in.

A full carrier replacement like @duderz7 requires proper shimming to get the backlash right.

This is true. I took "drop in" to mean does it fit without modification. I will say however, that I put this one in with new bearings and the same shims that came out of the original and it came out pretty darn good. You may not be so lucky.

Drop in to me allows shimming if needed. I'm so fixated on the OX locker anything less in the front will seem unworthy, but I know the torsen and lunchbox types are perfectly adequate. My only issue with a torsen is having to apply brakes to get lockup and my issue with lunchbox's is the ratcheting sound they make. I'm sure I'd be happy with either, once giving it a chance. By chance are there any lunchbox style lockers that are known to be silent due to a slightly different engaging method?

Is that a factory torsen or DTT?

Spartan helical, very similar to dtt. Only a lot less $. I've had One front wheel off the ground and spin the one still on the ground in the dirt. I'm very happy with it.

The No-slip is silent. It has some synchros that the other lunchboxes don't have.

Edit: Torsen types don't lock up. I have two buddy's that abandoned them for that reason. One was the OEM dodge ram type ('06) and the other was a Ford Motorsport one.

I will look into the No-Slip. Do you know if it tries to lock up when you are in 2 wheel drive?
