The trans in my old Liberty didn’t seem to be shifting all that great, it has 139,000 km on it and had one previous filter change.

I dropped the pan and replaced the filter, the pan drop replaces about half the fluid, the dry fill capacity is listed as 8.8 quarts. So I decided to do a full flush, you have to remember not to start it and mix the old and new fluid prior to the flush. I removed the cooler line on outlet side of the cooler, driver side. There is a small clip on the cooler line and then it pulls out. I used a 2’ piece of 3/4” heater hose and slipped it over the fitting on the cooler. On the initial fill prior to start up I overfilled the transmission by about a quart. I put the heater hose into an empty 5 quart transmission fluid jug and started the Jeep. The fluid comes out relatively slow and I kept pouring in fresh fluid until the empty 5 quart jug was full of the old fluid and then I shut the Jeep off. When I shut it off the Jeep the fluid coming out was clean, bright red.

So far the results are noticeable, it shifts smoothly. The old fluid didn’t have a burnt odour but was very dark. I used two 5 quart jugs of Mobil ATF+4.
