I'd consider a flush and ensure you utilize ATF +4 transmission fluid. In or around 2003 all KJ's came with ATF+4 installed by factory for power steering.

Welcome to the forums Mike. The correct coolant for the KJ is Mopar Hoat coolant or Zerex G05 only. If any other type of coolant has even been added, you should flush the entire system and use the HOAT.

Do you have a VOM meter? What is the battery voltage reading. It should read 12.6 volts. How old is battery? It also could be the starter relay, or possibly the ignition switch itself.

You need the OEM Thermostat and install & align it correctly.

There is only 1 correct thermostat for the KJ & it is not in a box. It is packaged in a plastic bag.
