Checked that also. Both new & old latch are in the open position.
I have 1 trick im gona try on the old latch at work. Heat up the heavy a bit to weaken it. Possibly make it easier to latch.
4th, they're not exactly flat either.

1) buy a brush guard for the liberty.
Thats half your bumper there and its a decent base to work off of. To finish the build out of a full coverage front bumper (very helpful in deer country)
