ID Parts and Sasquatch(Weeks) have a lot of stuff for these engines. Check with "mountainman" on the LOSTJEEPS forum for a used manifold. He was getting rid of some CRD stuff not too long ago. I think he's in Montaña or Idaho, on a mountain.

Check with Mountainman on LOSTJEEPS for parts. He might have a good used piston&liner. CaptainDean's clinking&clanking thread has great pictures and advice on the inside of these engines.
Eaton makes the Detroit Tru Track helical locker and Spartan makes a similar helical locker.
Biggest problem with front lockers on KJs is the weakness of the aluminum differential housing.

The only differential difference between diesel and petrol Liberties is the ratio. Howling is probably wheel bearings, pinion bearings, or lack of gear lube.
You're right that the diesel has more torque. The torque converter is the typical fail point for the CRD's extra torque.
If you don't have ABS either trak-loc or not will work unless there's a speed sensor in the differential for the speedometer. ABS sensor through '05 was in differential. '06 and up had sensors at both rear wheels for electronic/ABS traction control.
