What did you do to your jeep today?

Thanks TC, Cleaning all the contacts was the first "go round" at a fix. That did seem to solve the drivers side, but the passengers side was just more stubborn. Honestly I can see how the socket would go bad, I'm just glad replacing it solved the trouble. gp

What did you do to your jeep today?

My rear blinkers started to be less than reliable about a month ago. Every once in a while one or the other would stop working. A good slap on the tail light assembly normally brought them back...until I went over a few bumps. Today the weather was nice so I took them out and cleaned the...

    Removing Drive Shaft

Thank you sir. I sprayed them with PB Blaster, let them sit a few hours and they backed out easily. It looks like blue lock tite was used to hold them in. Normally I would not have given up so easily....I guess I'm out of practice. Thanks again. stn

    Removing Drive Shaft

All, It's been a while since I've posted. Honestly since replacing my 02 Sport with an 05, I must say I find myself in the garage fixing things a lot less. However my new machine did pick up a vibration when decelerating the other week. Today when I crawled under to remove the driveshaft for...

What did you do to your jeep today?

all of a sudden it would not start! I had to run an errand before my date tonight. The key just turned round and round.! Oh no. All I heard in my mind was her saying "another date broken while you fix stuff...." after a quick internet search, a trip to the parts store, $40 and two...

When is it time to give up and move on to another vehicle?

Thanks for all the notes. Last night I climbed under the Liberty and scraped rust off the oil pan and painted it. Now after some exhaust work I'll feel much better about it. I'll be moving in a few years to a spot where I can work on it at my own pace in a better shop. Between now and...

When is it time to give up and move on to another vehicle?

Hi all Over the past 5 years I've enjoyed turning wrenches on my Liberty. It is one of the built and has clocked 240 thousand miles. This weekend I replaced diff fluids trans fluids and oil. The plan was also to size up a pending cat converter replacement. When I climbed under it...

What did you do to your jeep today?

Last week my drivers side bearing gave up the ghost. Having replaced the right side about a year ago.....tonights job went about twice as fast.

    Smokin

It's a keeper. The rebuilt engine isn't a bad thing. Just keep up on the basic maintenance and it will seemingly run forever. Just ask the forum how many are members of the 200K club. The thing was in production for over a decade with well over a million units. The design is/was good...

What did you do to your jeep today?

Parked it. With the late spring and poor recent weather in Massachusetts, today is the first "really nice day". Time to give Libby a break and take out the convertible.

What's on Your Spring KJ to do list?

Making progress on my list My Blue 02' Liberty has led a tough life. 235K, a drivers side collision by the previous owner, etc etc. Luckily for me it has been up to the test. Since owning it, I've taken care of the majority of "vehicle killing" trouble. This spring I have time to...

Rear Wiper will not move with wiper arm on

Thanks! Actually as it turned out there is a small triangle on back of the rest that is on the wiper arm. The correct "installation position" is to place that triangle on top of outside "curl up" of rubber rest that is attached to the body. It works perfectly now! It does seem like the...

Rear Wiper will not move with wiper arm on

Sorry all, After a nights sleep to clear my mind, I realized I just needed to pay attention to the installation step one: "The rear wiper arm must be indexed to the outboard motor output shaft with the rear motor in the parked position." Moral or the story, as my dad tried to teach...

Rear Wiper will not move with wiper arm on

I noticed my rear wiper stopped working several months ago. Over time I've been following the manual to troubleshoot it.....with no luck. Today I was at you-pull yard getting a part for my BMW. I saw a Liberty in very good condition and pulled the wiper motor. When I connected the...

Not a failed install.....just not finished yet

Cruise Control install.....not finished yet Cruise starts then stops After a bit of a cold snap, I got to install the cruise control on my 02 sport. The parts are a combination of salvage yard and ebay. All went as expected. During the test drive it became evident that I've missed something...

    Computer Question

I second and third the above comments. Hell I'd even replace the alt. before replacing the computer. My 02 ran fine, but had several electrical "demons" that i could not solve. Once the alt gave up and was replaced, my radio, fogs, and interior lights all acted normally again. The key...

    Quick Cruise Control Servo question

I'd like to install cruise control (speed control) on my 02. The job looks easy enough, but when I look under my hood I do not see the Servo Electrical connector. Should I take this as a bad omen and simply move on to the next project, or is there a harness that I can add or other easy...

    HOW TO: Flush/Change Coolant

Still not convinced I replaced my coolant, T Stat, and water pump the other day, and I've not seen any issues yet. I drained from the radiator drain and replaced as the service manual indicated.. I think the whole thing ran me about $140 in parts including an easy out set for the damaged TStat...

42RLE and 45RFE Transmission Filter and Gasket Info

interesting I did this job a few weeks ago on my 02. I bought the filters and fluid from the dealer, and a gasket from autozone. Halfway through I decided to spend another 30 bucks to replace my dented and rusty pan. Advance Auto had the part and I now have a handy drain plug just waiting...
