    Somethings gotta change

The wife. She always gets that far-away look in her eyes when we see a late 80's, early 90's F-350 4x4. She kinda likes "Mona" my '88 F-250 but she complains that the clutch return springs are too strong. Says it hurts her knee. I think it could launch a smaller person right out the rear...

    Somethings gotta change

I believe that's true. My theory is that the manufacturers were striving to find a way to make their 4wd vehicles more appealing to a larger and more diverse set of people. In order to sell more vehicles, they needed to eliminate some of the things that made those vehicles better for off-road...

    We are adventuring again!

The stuff that makes it all worth-while. Great pics. I can just see the fun.

    Somethings gotta change

Cars is just easier to type than automobiles or vehicles. If you mean Sport Utility Vehicles, none of them are good for any sport that I know of, and with the exception of my F250, none are very utilitarian either. Just try to load a ton of rock into any of them. In my book, they're all cars...

Went wheelin' took 6 hours to get back home

As my son used to say: Word.

    Somethings gotta change

@badkittystt: Perhaps Cecil is just suffering from furballs? I hope he can find his way out the nook soon. Maybe I'm too worried about all the plastic on Chrysler's idea of what a Jeep should be. None of my other 4wd cars, both past and present, had plastic trim pieces down low and out in...

Went wheelin' took 6 hours to get back home

Wow. All that from the one little bump in the video?!

<Roseanne Rosannadana> Oh that's different. Never mind. </Roseanne Rosannadana> Sorry about the confusion.

    Pics of offroad light!

This is what my KJ had when I bought her. It's just bumper jewelry really. I'd hate to see what happens if I tried to actually push anything with it. It's destined to be scrapped when I start trying to build a real 4wd out of her. But, it provides a place to mount the lights. I don't know...

    Air bag light.

It's not exactly a simple system there. I would start by looking into connections between the OCM ( Occupant Classification Module ) ( really?) and the bladder assembly in the front passenger seat. I'm getting this information from the owners manual BTW. Both drivers and passengers should...

    Somethings gotta change

I guess I'm just a bit miffed at Chrysler for how they built this thing. She's joining the stable of 4wd cars as the youngest, prettiest, softest ride, quietest, and most fragile. At least in factory stock configuration. Come to think of it, all my 4wd cars are still sitting on original...

    Somethings gotta change

A quick web search didn't find any pics from someone else either. We picnicked at the top at N40 14.976' W105 24.336' The hill is 1/4 mi NW of there.

    Somethings gotta change

We didn't take any, unfortunately. The other part of this mission ( read: SWMBO's reason ) was to get pictures of the various wildflowers in bloom to use as advertising photos for her business. So we just packed up the two of us, threw the dogs in the back, and headed off. Lots of flower...

    Somethings gotta change

We took Nancy, the new-to us '04 Liberty Renegade, out for her first tests at climbing hills and maneuvering through ruts and rocks. She did much better than some of the other vehicles we saw on the nastiest parts of the hill climb which required lots of suspension flex and a fair amount of...

First time Off-roading with my Liberty

Back in the good old days ( my age is showing again ), We would rig an old AC compressor and small pressure can under the hood just for airing up the tires after a beach run. Mine in those days was a '61-ish Kaiser Wagoneer with the Hurricane 230 straight six OHC. The this was not good for...

1st as granny gear or not?

I'm talking about the 5 speed manual tranny that came stock with the '04 Liberty and 3.7L engine and starts on-the-road under normal conditions. It seems that 1st on my '04 KJ is kinda useless, but 2nd is a bit of a stretch for starting out. I listed a couple of my other 4wd manual transmission...

1st as granny gear or not?

I'm still undecided about this on the new-to-me '04 KJ. It seems that 1st gear is just a bit too low for normal on-the-road starts, and 2nd may be just a bit too high. In my '77 CJ ( 258 w/ 4speed T10 and 410s ), 1st is almost never used on the road. Same goes for my '88 F250 7.3 Diesel...

    Oil Pan drain Plug Leaking

@diyman: No worries. Just a good natured poke at your phrasing. Yeah, I do have a cherry picker and all the tools needed. I'm just trying to balance the day spent fixing this over just considering it to be $700.00 more than I thought. Keep in mind that I bought this KJ about 4 days ago! She's...

    2006 KJ Code

I bought the ELM 327 Bluetooth scan tool from some Internet supplier a while back. When coupled with Torque, an app for Android, it makes a pretty nice combination. I can get real-time fuel economy and even horsepower readings right on my phone. About $25.00 for everything.
