    Crunchy Rear End Sounds

Check the exhaust hangers as well. They tend to rust pretty badly over time. A couple of years ago one of mine broke off, and as a result the tailpipe would intermittently rub against the inside of the wheel well, creating all kinds of weird noises. Took me forever to track that one down. If one...

    Lower control arm bolts stuck

Reciprocating saws usually are the best ways to get those bolts out if they're seized. But you need a good high-quality blade. The first time I had to cut one of those bolts I started with a cheap blade from Harbor Freight. After half an hour, it still had barely made a dent in the bolt. Got a...

    Trying to track down issue!

Also, if you're planning on opening up the transfer case, make sure you have this part on hand: 05072308AA That's the metal cover around the output shaft on the rear side. It's impossible to get it off without damaging it beyond repair(and you need to remove it in order to open the case).

    Trying to track down issue!

I'm working on the transfer case myself at the moment, I literally got those two nuts out five minutes ago. You'll need a 9/16 flex-head ratcheting wrench. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Husky-9-16-in-Flex-Head-Ratcheting-Combination-Wrench-HFRW916/202942509 I've read of other people using a...

Binding sound when turning / accelerating

Mine makes similar sounds. Mostly when coming to a stop, accelerating from a stop, and making turns at low speed. At this point, I'm pretty sure it has to be the front differential bushings that are causing it. I've replaced everything else that it could be.

    Bolt markings

Do you have any pick and pull junkyards near where you live? I've been able to get lots of hardware in good condition from those places, for very cheap. Especially since you're in AZ, where rust isn't as much of an issue.

Glad to hear it's all working out!

    Lower control arm replacement

Try just pulling the bolt downwards, while rocking the control arm back and forth. If the sleeve in the bushing is not perfectly aligned with the holes in the bracket, it puts enough pressure on the bolt to make it very hard to get it out. If I remember correctly there's only an inch or so of...

    Lower control arm replacement

Just undo the two bolts on the flange directly in front of the muffler. The muffler will then just be hanging from the two exhaust hangers, and you can push it to the side far enough to get plenty of space to remove the bolt.

Transfer case - which size chain?

I'm going to be rebuilding my transfer case (it's been having minor leaks in a couple of different spots for a while), and am trying to get all the parts together. I read in a couple of different places that the NV-231J transfer case can come with two different chains, either 1 inch wide or...

Can't get rear UCA bracket to align with the axle

I found the easiest way (for me at least) is to use ramps, and not jack anything up. Simply drive the rear wheels onto the ramps. It gives you plenty of space to work, and has the added benefit of pushing the suspension and rear axle up, removing the pressure on the tri-link. Makes it really...

Upper Control Arm's (UCA's) Mevotech TTX or Moog Problem Solver

I have the Moog PS UCAs. After about 30k miles, they're already in pretty bad shape. Lots of cracks in the bushings, and the boots won't last much longer either. I don't have experience with those specific Mevotech UCAs. But, for suspension parts I've been moving from Moog to Mevotech little...

    2006 engine swap

An '07 engine should work in an '06 without major modifications. I'm not sure if the 06 has an EGR system. If it doesn't, you'll just have to block off the EGR port on the 07 engine.

Overheated, now running extremely rough. Need advice please

Do you have an itemized invoice? I would assume that if they used new spark plugs (like they definitely should), they would have charged you for them.

What did you do to your jeep today?

Replaced the radiator, and reconnected all the windshield washer fluid tubes that they forgot to reconnect when I got my windshield replaced last week.

This is the part number you will need: 53013885AA. You should be able to get it online for less than 15 bucks.

What did you do to your jeep today?

Aaaaaand another window regulator bit the dust. I lived in Wyoming (with mild summers) for years, never had any issues with the window regulators. Last summer I drove to Colorado (where it was 100+ that day) for a job interview, and the rear driver's side regulator broke. Replaced it, and moved...

    ‘02 upper control arm replacement

If you look inside the wheel well, there's a bolt that holds the brake line in place. If you remove that bolt, it should give you a little bit more wiggle room, and you won't have to disconnect the brake line. As for the rear bolt, just use a couple of wobble extensions and snake them around...

What did you do to your jeep today?

Ugh, no more Moog products for me... I was checking the suspension, trying to track down the source of some weird noises. Both of the LBJs seem to be in pretty bad shape (the boots at least). They are only about a year old, and have been greased 3 or 4 times in that year. The rubber of the...
