    My 'boring' 05 Sport

Finally stumbled across this section of the forum, and figured it might be fun to write some stuff down so I can read it back in a couple of years. As far as the 'boring' in the topic title goes, my KJ is stock height, and I have no plans to lift it (I know, blasphemy :icon_razz:). I don't do...

What did you do to your jeep today?

That sucks Tom, hopefully the damage won't be too bad. I put in all the shiny Limited interior trim parts. And found out that despite all the research I did on installing an EVIC, I missed the part about 05's not having the bracket required to install the EVIC :favorites68:. I can't find...

    Accessory grinding noise on occasion

I had all kinds of weird noises coming from the tensioner at around 140k. Initially I just replaced the pulleys on the tensioner. That quieted it down somewhat. Replacing the entire tensioner assembly made all the noises disappear.

Pullers are great if the hub is stuck on the CV axle, but won't do anything to separate the hub from the knuckle (which sounds like what is the issue here).

What did you do to your jeep today?

If it's not seized to the CV axle, then just take the hub + knuckle off together. That'll make it much easier to beat on it with a BFH, without risking damage to other parts.

What did you do to your jeep today?

Yeah it turned out to be super easy indeed. I was mostly concerned about removing all the panels to be able to get access to the instrument cluster. On my last vehicle (Ford Explorer) I always had issues with clips breaking whenever I tried to remove panels.

What did you do to your jeep today?

Made a trip to the junkyard in Denver. Got all the shiny interior trim pieces and door handles from a Limited, an outside mirror (mine has a nasty rusty scratch on the mirror glass), and an EVIC. I got another EVIC a couple months back, but I didn't do enough research ahead of time then and...

    KJ transmission ID

It's the other way around actually :icon_wink:. 42RLE has 13 bolts, 45RFE has 15. Another easy way to determine which transmission you have is by looking at the transmission crossmember. If it's straight, you have the 42RLE. It's it's curved towards the rear of the vehicle, 45RFE.

    hood rubber strip help

Stuff like that will be on shelves in the 'public' part of the stores. If the geniuses behind the counter have no idea what you're talking about, just walk around until you find it. They're usually called door panel retainers, or trim panel retainers. Advance Auto has a bunch of different kinds.

Pulling a hood from a Pick 'N Save

I don't want to discourage you, but if you even find half of all that stuff at a self-service junkyard, you're very lucky. I've gone through probably about 15 KJ's at junkyards. Not a single one of them still had a grill cover. The few that still had front bumpers, were all in really bad...

    Sluggish KJ

This occasionally happens to mine as well. Most of the time it accelerates perfectly fine, with lots of power. But occasionally it just won't go over 65-70mph on the interstate. A couple minutes later it'll be perfectly fine again. I've done all the usual stuff. Plugs, throttle body, air...

    Upgraded Front Lower Control Arms

Can't really say whether or not the whole LCA needs to be replaced until you actually take it apart. In some cases after you cut the bolt out you can just hammer the remaining part out of the bushing using a punch or something similar. In that case you wouldn't have to replace the LCA itself...

    Forum Structure

You mean something like the "Jeep Liberty Forum - JeepKJ Country" link that shows up directly underneath the "Quick Links" button at the top of the page, any time you're anywhere other than on the homepage?

What did you do to your jeep today?

Thanks! Yeah I somehow lost a washer when I replaced those links a couple of months ago. I intended to replace it as soon as possible, but completely forgot about it until you mentioned it. Oh well, it hasn't caused any issues so far, I guess it'll be fine for a bit longer - after this whole...

What did you do to your jeep today?

Thanks! Six months ago I had never even done as much as change a vehicle's oil by myself, so I'm pretty happy with myself right now haha.

I believe 75-90 is a synthetic weight, while 80-90 is dino.

What did you do to your jeep today?

Moog Problem Solver upper control arms, lower ball joints, inner and outer tie rods. Timken wheel hubs, Napa reman calipers, Advance Auto lower brake lines. I hadn't originally planned on replacing the calipers and brake lines, but the rust was so bad I had no choice. The clevis brackets...

What did you do to your jeep today?

Finished the suspension overhaul. That driver's side UCA really was a pain... Had to cut another LCA bolt, the rear one this time. And again, the other one just slid out with no issues whatsoever :emotions34:. I would have liked to do the struts and springs as well, but just couldn't afford it...

    Uh oh! ID this bolt?

I'm pretty sure those are 15mm.

Oil leak...where to start looking? 2.8CRD

The whole unit has to be replaced. Go with Mopar only, other brands often will cause issues and trigger the oil pressure warning light. The part number is 5149097AA, should be around 25 bucks.
