My recommendation is that if the engineers thought there should be insulation it is probably needed. Be warned that is fiberglass and it itches like a motherf.........
Blew through a 3-4ft wall of concrete-snow to get into my driveway. Then promptly got stuck in the end of the driveway (which is where I wanted it anyways).
Took it back to the shop for warranty work. I told them not to use Bosch O2 sensors or I'll be back in a month. Guess what. It's been a month. They were unable to get me in so next Thursday I have to go back for a "diagnosis" where I will just tell them to put a ngk in for free. Really hope...

See I wouldn't recomend making it any taller until she can get the feel for it. SUVs and other high vehicles can be a challenge to newer drivers when it comes to panic maneuvers.
I do agree a OME kit would be a great idea after a year of driving.
It's a very safe vehicle and has been reliable to me but has to be maintained well. For a younger driver though it is a taller vehicle that can roll much easier than a car. If I had this vehicle in high school I can guarentee I would not be posting here.
