Finally got all the spring yardwork up to date...spending the holiday weekend prepping Bert for the annual road trip. Nothing too remote this year. However have about 10k miles across a dozen states to do over the next four months.

Big July trip is a fossil site in Texas that will be lost to a dam project in 2025, so gotta hit it for a few days. Need me a mosasaur. Might sneak out to Nevada for some Jarbidge Wilderness fun now that I located the "secret" fossil plant sites via satellite images. Had set basecamp about 8 miles too far south in that vast playground.

Have a laundry list of annual maintenance and modifications to do.

So, in the past 7 days I had a new cam belt and did the oil and filters, then the rear rear U/J went into chronic grindin vibratin omg I think my dif has gone mode. New U/J fitted today, one with a grease nipple to boot and welcome back Dr Smooooooooooooth (ish). In between these two events I did a 170 mile round trip on the motorway and was rocking 50mpg!! That's your good old fashioned imperial gallons mind.

so my passenger rear window regulator needs help.
speciifically, it won't go up at all any more without help. makes evil grinding noises. sounds like the whole regulator needs replacing.
it's the single stiff cable design, not the looped cable setup. are they interchangeable? is the looped cable more reliable?

plan is to rip the door apart (again!) on sunday and see what kind of problems really are going on with the regulator.

plan is to rip the door apart (again!) on sunday and see what kind of problems really are going on with the regulator.
I think u will find that the white plastic tubing has cracked and is letting the Cable chatter and bind. Ive never found what size it is, but there has to be a standard someplace on what size it is.

50mpg??? I was impressed with mid 30's on my manual!

Mines stock (apart from BFG A/T's) never noticed any real difference from my 4.0 XJ with a 2" lift & 31" MT's, i.e about 16 mp(imperial)g. I was expecting a little better - but, when I was looking for a KJ, the quoted figures for diesels wasn't much different. which makes 30 pdg.

Oh, & what did I do today? Found the key, after a week in which I tried not to think about it. So, once again, the vision of the scrapyard gates recedes.

I'll learn more when I rip the door apart again later. Need to drive it tomorrow to get welding equipment for the kid, so I'm just leaving it closed for now. Plus I gotta work on mom's car next week first.

I just used the headlight removal access method today - it works GREAT :)

2011 Libby with Tow package, and full set of skid plates.

Put new shoes on her...Yokohama Geolander 2015 A/T...charged the AC after replacing compressor in the Fall, rebuilt JBA UCA ball joints using their rebuild kit and mechanic figured out why the key would not come out of the ignition: spring in shifter losing its tension after 17 years...so they added a sister spring to assist. She lives to ride another few days

I put a couple hundred miles on it today. I'll be getting new tires within the next month, hopefully. The current ones are somewhere between legal tread, but too worn to bother balancing. I'll do the same cheapo Advanta all terrains. Traction has been awesome with them.

I have had to replace the regulators in both rear doors multiple times. First cable problem occured when vehicle was 7 years old. Went with the looped cable design - they are interchangable. There is a bracket with a clip that holds the window glass to the rail that the window glass rides on up and down. Jeep made two different versions/sizes of these. Just make sure to match your version.
That said, I had the looped cable break as well, both the cheap and expensive versions bought at RockAuto. They have lasted between 3 and 6 years. The cable just snapped in two. I think it was because I hardly ever use the rear windows and they became half stuck. (Has anyone else the sensation of extreme wind noise and a loud "fluttering" or vibration assault-on-the-ears type sensation with both windows down or partly down at the same time at highway speeds?? Have never had this with any other vehicle.) When I finally wanted to use the window the pull force required may have been too much for the cable.

Yeah, the helicopter effect is much more pronounced with the Liberty. My Outback would do it sometimes if I had the sunroof open, but just the back windows can do it on the Libby.

I've resoldered my defrost tabs back onto the rear window a few times now. Anybody got any tricks to make it more durable?
