When I had the trans oil cooler problem it was before I had found autodoc and was quoted £930 for a new rad, which was why I went for the external aftermarket route which worked out at £50 after I'd bought rubber lines and fittings. Looking at a couple of hundred quid for a rad from autodoc which is far more palatable.

From what I understand the CRD is meant to run quite hot for peak efficiency and the impression I get is that having the tans cooler integral to the engine coolant rad helps keep the temps up in that zone, and without that heat input the system is too efficient.
A friend has a laser thermometer and this weekend hope to run it up from cold and check heat differentials on the thermostat.
No it's an odd one, but worth investing. I must admit that I missed the 'transmission' bit of the original post, I had engine oil cooler in my head....

Samco silicon hoses. ID-Parts had them and an alternative brand silicon hose which was a bit cheaper. Sasquatch has a silicon air inlet hose too; the originals get a hole where the crud from the CCV (hockey puck) enters; at the bottom near the turbo inlet.

I couldn't find the Samco, but I got a set of Mishimoto silicone hoses; they should be delivered tomorrow. I'm checking things off the list to be ready for off roading this spring/summer. My Dad's 05 Rubicon is almost finished being built so that we can go together, but it started off with lots of goodies that the KJs don't get. I don't have a winch, I don't have skid plates, I don't have lockers, and these things seem to be hard to find for the KJ. Where do I find skid plates? I've looked all over and I can't find anything that is currently available; I'm seriously considering fabricating my own. How about lockers? I've got the rear LSD, but should I add a front locker or go full lockers? I still need to level up the front a bit, what's the best and most reliable way to add more front height? How about winching and recovery? I've got a frontal bull bar that pushes brush away from the front bumper, but it also diminishes clearance. At present I haven't found any better options, but I'd love to hear what you guys are doing in these areas. What actually works for the KJ, what do you really need, what should I expect. I'm a professional collision repair technician with access to a welder and plasma cutter, and I'm willing to try any of it myself rather then pay someone else to touch my baby...
The export Limited diesel has an engine skid plate, maybe the US diesel has them?
Other than that I don't know, you will probably have to fabricate the bits.

Yes, it has a factory engine skid, but I need transmission and transfer case plates too. I can see the mounting holes in the crossmembers, so I should probably just plan to fabricate them. What material should I use, steel maybe aluminum? Back to the drawing board...

Installed the silicone CAC hoses last night; turbo side was easy, engine side took some effort, but its all in now. Runs great again, boost is back and it builds good power all throughout the rpm band. I decided to replace the airbox intake hose as well but its out off stock right now, so when they get it back I'll install it too.

Replaced the Heater hoses between the thermostat and the heater core. Lost a socket into the skid plate though. Any advice on how to remove while it's on the ground?
Just pull the skid plate off, I had a 10mm socket live there for a few months before I pulled the skid and found it.

Ok, any guides on how to do it? Or at least a clear illustration for a beginner to where the bolts are/how many there are? I tried looking today with a endoscope camera, but couldn't see anything, and it's been in the 30's F here, so laying on the parking lot isn't fun, but later today it's supposed to hit the mid 40's so I'm gonna try to remove it today.

Put a piece of cardboard down, makes laying on the ground much nicer. 4 bolts with 15mm heads.

And the skid plate has open slots in the back so the rear bolts just need to be loosened.

A million thanks. Except for one that was 17, knowing there was only 4 holding it on made them easy to find and it only took 2 seconds to find the socket and about another 10 minutes to get the plate resecured after I figured to use a socket extender to support the plate in place while I put the bolts back in. I swear I ran my hand over where the socket was the night it fell, but didn't feel it.

I just removed mine on Saturday to change the front diff fluid. One of the front bolts snapped off with about 3/8" showing. Trying to decide if I should try to remove it or just use a nut on it to act as a stud?

Well, the stud idea didn't work, there's not enough material to thread a bolt on. I bought the steel today for my transmission skid plate; about $60 US. Finished with my templating today, I'll finish cutting tomorrow, and hopefully I'll be finished by the end of the week. I'll let you know how it goes and include some pictures.

Lost the Jeep 2 weeks ago RIP. Hydroplaned at 60mph, lost the back end and couldn't save it. Slash didn't want to go to my right into 6 lanes of traffic. Did a 180 counter-clockwise, passenger rear quarter hit the concrete wall and I slid a ways down the hill on the interstate. At least this happened after I dropped the kiddos off. Shockingly, I did not hit a single other car. Airbag did not go off. Insurance totaled the car, as I expected. Got more money than if I had sold it or traded in, ha, that's the bright side. Cleanest car in the tow lot (biased lol). Super bummed.
This community was good to me and I wish everyone the best! Don't let your tire tread get low, that's 100% what did me in during this morning heavy rain. I'll post again on here sometime to sell various parts and painted steel wheels I have lying around that never made it on the Jeep.
