06 Renegade owned 7 months. Fixer upper work in progress. Need help with EVAP leak. I have "gas cap" on display. Smell fumes (after) driving. Code for small and large EVAP leak. Replaced gas cap. Checked all hoses.

Found a (plastic hose connector) on the EVAP canister is real loose. See photos attached. I can move it in and out (but) cannot get it off the canister. The black wire tie in my photo, I put next to the connector to make it a little less play. Went from large leak to small leak.

Photo of canister at auto parts store shows a ridge on the canister port that this assembly engages with. This diagram I found is for a later year. But the hose #1 is similar to what I'm trying to remove... without damaging the canister.

Dealer say "that hose and connector assembly" is discontinued for 06. If I can remove it I can fab a hose and adapter to replace this quick connector. I tryed pulling up on the white ring going into the plastic. It will not come out. I can rotate the plastic connector to see the other side. 2 square slots. No indication of what releases it. Dealer did not know.

Before I get my Dermal tool to it... tell me the secret way to remove it.

Had a similar issue with an EVAP line under the hood on my '05. Could not get it to release either until I had received the spare part so I could see the inside of the new connector. Yours looks similar but no guarantee. Found that pressing on the blue colored ring while gently pulling on and wiggling the hose released it. Mine was awkward to get to and I ended up using hose pliers to get leverage.
I doubt that there is a random unrelated adapter that would fit this setup.
Pictures are of my old part.

Thanks. I got it to release. Looks like the connector is not bad after all. The o-ring is good. The play in it is just the way it is made, but it makes a good seal. Good thing because they don't make it anymore.
Last time I cleared the codes, only Gas Cap remains. Waiting for another whiff of vapor to see if it is near fill tube or down low by canister. Think I will replace gas cap (again) just in case the one I bought is defective.

Check the tubing that connects to the Evap Solenoid. A couple of us had holes worn through where they pass close to the battery. That gave me the gas cap code.
