Changed the oil today. I was super frustrated because the previous owner overtighted the oil filter, so I could not get it off. Now I’m off to the closest AutoZone to buy an oil filter wrench.

Thank you Ill be doing this soon since I’m daily driving the 04 Kj now and the clear coat on the paint is gone, might do tailgate and hood also
Tailgate is likely the same, but check the hood before trying to swap an 05-07 onto a 02-04. The front grille and front fenders are not the same there.

I'd like to know how much it cost too. Did you use junkyard gears or buy them new?

I bought them new, I had a bad experience with the store i bought them from, so i missed most of the off road season. $800 for the gears and rebuild kits, about $900 to install but i also had some other work done. I have nothing but great things to say about the mechanic i had install it. Immediate noticeable increase in gas mileage, about 6mpg more. While i have been babying it for the break in period, definite difference in power and engine performance. I am well pleased with this upgrade.

Bert towed the 58 Beazlebug down to the "secret VW shop" for some welding that is beyond my skill and equipment level. Didn't come home empty though, as I went broke due to the acquisition of a Porsche 911 boxer six. All is well! Berts due for new U-joints and Beazle gonna need some big a$$ rear wheels and a welded gear...

Been hauling remodeling materials in and all the hideous thrift store garbage/crap that was popular on instagram/wannabe hipster junk the ex forced me to live with for so long to the dump. Bert helped me remodel a bedroom and get started on a both a workshop and a outdoor gear store room. A few more weekends and I can properly weld ( beyond body work) AND make furniture again after a long, long hiatus.
Even tried out the trailer, Ernie, I've been working on.

Sure is great to have such an excellent multipurpose vehicle!
