the other day the orange check engine light came on, drove of the the shop to buy more oil as it was at minimum.
Topped up light stayed on, nothing else wrong I could see but still driving ok. So off up Mway home used beck roads to town and lacking power at top end, home change fuel filter and power back but check light o, and a code for air flow meter so pulled that out and could see dirt in it blew it out reset codes and now all ok, 200 hp back, spinning wheels again and much less peddle needed to get moving I expect the mower was decreasing over a long time and I just did not notice it; muck did come out of the filter in small clumps looked like it had been there a while,
I do run her on used chip oil, the oil is thinned first 50/50 with Petrol and filtered using large chemical filters it produced a mix slightly thicker than DERV clear but darker in colour and I have not found it separating or going waxy at all if stored a while.
I used this mix in another van changed filters every 6 months, will do the same with the Jeep only had the oil mix in the last few weeks and the stuff in the filter was not the same as what I filter out of the oil mix, it looked lore like black dust clumping.
Last person to change the filter Not me left out the small seal in the centre. If it does turn out to be the oil mix, filters are 5 euros each and 15 min to change. At that price I can change every tank and still save 50% or more on cost.
10 yrs ago when I first started with used chip oil I was very frightened to use it, So many people are so negative, less power, the smell, blocks injectors, clogs piped gels up,............ well it took 12 months to show and problem and that was fixed with the filter. Took head of engine after 8 years and my mechanic was expecting bad things but no all bright and clean NO carbon deposits, so head on and engine into a replacement van, Now use the Jeep for work and the mechanic is taking the engine to put in a customers van.
I will finish there as the post is now a bit long LOL and you are all falling asleep. ZZZZZZZZZZZ

moved it out of the way so I could drive the convertible some more.
put gas in it for the first time since buying it in march.
Bought 3/2/2022.
wheels up 3/11/2022.
wheels down 5/2/2022.
kid really only had time to work on it Wednesday afternoon/evening and Sunday, so the going was slow.
plus we had to take it apart to find out what was broken, then order parts, wait for them to arrive (gotta say though, Rock Auto was pretty damn quick. Next day in a lot of cases.)

So far the total is:
$900 purchase price
$120 (and 9 hours!) for gas in the Jeep to go get it.
$806 in parts
$50 in "maintenance" items (oil analysis, oil change, cleaning supplies, fixing things w/o parts, etc.)
$133 for registration, plates, title transfer

Still to do:
suspension, all 4 corners, complete replacement
replace top
new driver's fender
left dog leg rust repair
coolant flush and expansion tank replacement
refurb (or replace) headlights
driver's sail window regulator fix/replace

Cosmetic items:
new steering wheel
new shift knob
clean the hell out of everything (it's not terrible though. actually pretty damn clean considering)
replace seat covers
paint job or wrap it

Consider getting the JBA upper control arms. Totally worth it. I would highly recommend the ARB shocks, struts, and springs.

You do realize he is talking about his sons car, right ?
Not his KJ
to be fair, I could have been clearer on that, as everything on the list, except the convertible top part, could have translated to the jeep. :D

Just lucky I guess. One aft bolt sheared on a rock ledge, one forward snapped off. Replaced them all with stainless steel.

Good thing I’m a little OCD about torque and grease. Discovered passenger side lower ball joint was sliding up and down in its socket. Applied JB weld and a few small welds for now till I figure out a replacement or weld up and rebroach ID. Isn’t rotating in socket, just totally loose up and down.

The lower ball joint...gets the eyes rolling into the back of my head...I jus did the lower control arms and lower ball joints...6 months ago?

Only 6 months ?
must of used cheap ones
I did what I could do at the time. Knew they wouldn't last long on a 600 mile a week mail route. Got me this far tho. Starting squeaking bout a month ago. Been sticking the grease needle in them once a week and keeping them full but I can tell. Wish I knew where to find TTXs for the lowers. Anybody?

Had the Timing Belt, Serpentine Belt and idler pulleys replaced on Friday.

Jeep has just turned 20 Years old and just short of 200,000 kms.

Going to give it a good vacume and clean inside and sort out the tools I carry with me.

Now that the Belts have been replaced I feel more confident about going into the Kruger National Park which is about a half-hour drive away...will be going there next Monday....you really need a vehicle that you are confident will not break down on you when you are on some desolate sand road...no cellphone-signal.....surrounded by wild game!o_O

If your mail route is anything like our roads around here , they are notorious for wearing out suspension, tires, everything
