Could someone clarify which filter is correct for the 42RLE transmission?

Getting ready to install a PML pan and a Lube Locker gasket on Bert- getting mixed information when searching by vehicle Model Year and/or just the transmission type. Would prefer to NOT have to start the project ( as in drop the pan to see which one is in there) and then wait around for the proper filter to arrive.

It’s tricky because 07 was a crossover year with the old body and new power train control (drive by wire, etc.). The 08 part number is 52852913AB in case that helps. Does it match any of the part numbers you found?

Yeah. Its looking like I am going to have to drop the pan to be sure as its 50/50 if it has the 06 filter or the 08 filter.

Check this out:

The early 06 42RLE had one electrical plug on the valve body, whereas the 08 has two. The second one is for variable line pressure control. Take a look at your electrical harnesses under there and see if you have the old or new 42RLE. I bet the filter will follow suit.

Brilliant! Thanks. Didn’t find that other thread.

Yes count transmission pan bolts for sure 2006 kj's were 13 bolts.
That being said, Making 1 call to a dealer and giving your VIN number, will prove what oil filter part# is required.

If the 06 still has a transmissions dipstick you can do like me and suck as much fluid as you can out of the ****** before you start pulling bolts. There will still be a good bit of fluid to catch but you can get half it out first.

Of my local autoparts stores, for the 13 bolt I liked the gasket and filter that AZ had in stock.

There are several sites where you can input
the V.I.N. and search for specific parts.

This should nail down the filter for you.

Not a recommendation, but here's one:

For 07s a vin search does not help in this case as it is a transition year. Some had one, some have the other.
