Another nice photo of Bert going full redneck showed up today. The photo doesn’t do the obstacle justice. Very glad the group I was in had a professional instructor as the leader. Still kind of shocked how well the Liberty did.

For both of the adventurous ones (Johnny and basist81), what did the other Jeepers have to say about your Liberty? Were they impressed as well?

If they weren’t, it’s because they’re embarrassed that Bert can hang with rigs that cost a hundred times as much.

Lots of slightly stunned Drivers to say the least. There was 98 Jeeps from our club there and about 20 from other clubs. Our groups were divided up by equipment and experience. The leader/instructor had me first in line and told the others “ If he makes it, then you can make it.” Then we both laughed our b.utts off as we worked the different obstacles. Quite a few first timers/pavement princesses were skipping obstacles that Bert ground out. There’s a great video of the Eagle’s Nest hill climb. Lots of amazed profanity as Bert rolled right up it. All through the day much laughter and eye rolling ceased as the Liberty just kept taking it.

Very entertaining.

I have a green Jeep. (See sig) I blacked out all the chrome with PlastiDip and have a few red accents here and there. (JBA A-Arms, tow hooks, that sort of thing. I really like the way it looks. I need to repaint my roof rack and now I am thinking of throwing some red on that as well.

Reminds me of one trip to Daniel Boone National Forest with some of the fellow LOST KJers
One of our guys just bought a Wrangler and met up with a group of Wrangler owners ,
Us one wrangler and 4 KJs
They were telling us to turn around cause up ahead some steep rock climbs
Told the guy with the Wrangler he could go with them
He yells back at me and said OK Tom take the lead
and they were all laughing
without a spotter ( sine I was the spotter for the group ) I went ahead
out of the 7 Wranglers, 4 took the strap and only one came up without spinning like I had done
Everyone got to the top, the one LEADER of their group said we gotta go, BYE and they all left with their tails between their legs
Lockers and years of experience goes a long ways

I’ll say this- that sort of terrain is very different with 4wd. I’d only done that sort of stuff in Baja bugs before. With those you just gun it and bounce.

What 04 gets, the 06 wants ...

son #2 brings 04 home with a down lr window.

easy swap - i've got a spare regulator right here.

last nite, coming from work, son 4 driving 06 (his lib), lr window down magically!

alas--

waiting on the parts to fix the one swapped out over the weekend.

- going to look at an 02 today with rusted rockers. Maybe a good donor for something!

Not certain if you folks can see this Facebook video, but here’s Bert and I killing the Eagle’s Nest hill. The was a Wrangler that attempted it before me, but he blew a drive shaft. I stopped only to assess a 2 foot ledge. They kept calling for more gas as they didn’t realize the power of the Liberty in 4 low in 2nd gear. After this, they quit trying to get me to just gun it. LOL. ( this is the edited version with all the shocked profanity cut, sadly, that was funny to hear the comments)

There was a few times I made the Wrangler crowd feel like a bunch if chumps while in my baja. Often involved me being airborne at some point. I don't drive the jeep that way, too heavy.

Yup. With a bug you just gun it and pray you don’t hit the engine/transaxle on something. None of this approach angles and contact points BS. Lol

Finished post trip damage control assessment.

Driver side mirror housing cracked
1 roof basket clamp stripped
2 engine skid bolts sheared off (wow!)
Driver rear brake line bracket bent
Numerous spots of Herculiner stripped from trees
Passenger side front “running board cover” rivets snapped
One nice wheel/tire scuff where a chunk of rock got stuck in the bead
But didn’t damage Toyos
1 mildly bruised ego after getting wedged bumper to bumper in a stream bed during flash flood that required a yank with a recovery rope after sliding into it.
Two very very dirty air filters, both washable
All wipers shot due to age and grime friction
Many grease joints need flushed after mud/water/limestone dust
Two zerk firing covers gone of JBAs
1 nice ding in top of passenger door frame…broken window like prevented by snorkel which is undamaged.
