looking for advice on buying a 2005 liberty

hey guys, first post here, but i am looking at getting a 2005 jeep liberty, has the nsg370 transmission ( the 6 speed manual trans), and it has the seemingly common problem of popping out of first gear. seller told me its been happening for a couple years, and has to be held in first, otherwise itll pop out maybe 50% of the time. in looking around at possible fixes, i came across a guy on you tube who had the problem in an 08, and put a b&m shifter for a wrangler in it, he had to lengthen the shift lever on it, but that was it. do you think the b&m shifter would work on the 05? seller said it shifts smooth in all other gears. hes looking for 6000, only other issue is that the back door latch doesnt work, big whoop, i can replace that easy enough. any advice on if this would be worth it or should i steer clear? only other option over replacing the shifter is a new transmission, dont really want to commit that kind of money..... any other possible solutions? thanks!

3.7? How many miles? 4x4? Rust?

Liberty's were selling for about $2000 here when Biden was sworn in, now they seem to be $4000-5000 around me. That is usually high miles, various states of wear and tear with lots of the typical things replaced -- AC system, suspension, alternator, water pump, etc.

$6000 not unreasonable right now if super nice no rust 4X4, but if they start pumping out chips again and the supply chain improves that will be 2-3 grand 4X4 again. So then the question is how much do you love it?

From when I was searching about the nsg370, the shifter seemed to fix a good portion of peoples problems with popping out of first gear, but not all. So that's something to keep in mind when you make an offer, it may not fix the problem on yours.

The other complaint some had, is it made it very notchy to shift. I have a feeling they never drove a car with a short throw shifter before, as that is a common trade off going from stock to a tighter tolerance shifter.

All depends the prices on your area and how much you like driving a manual, it was a must for me, and I drove almost 300 miles 1 way to get mine. I got mine last march for 7k, and there wasn't any other vehicle manual v6/v8 4x4 in 500 miles of me that was even a comparison for the price/condition of the vehicle.

Wait for another one that doesn't have the 1st gear problem. Liberty's aren't all that rare. They built hundreds of thousands of them. Or get the guy to discount the price to cover the cost of repair. $6k for a KJ that won't stay in gear seems crazy to me.
