I have the steering knuckles out to replace the ball joint. I got the new greaseable ones in. My old ones were shot.

Unlike my tie rods and new ball joints, the bolt coming out of the upper control arm moves really freely. It has no vertical movement nor friction, but both sides I just can move the part the bolt goes on really easily side to side, back and forth.

Is this how they are new or should they have the resistance of the tie rods and new ball joints?

The bushings to the frame look brand new. I am not sure if they are original or not. The seem to be stamped TRW.

Should be pretty snug, if they moove as easily as you say, imagine how much they might move with the weight of the jeep behind it.

Pretty sure the original arms have TRW stamped on them. They should have a bit of resistance, not be floppy. Its possible they have inwards and outwards play but you are not pulling/pushing hard enough to feel it. I always use a pry bar wedged back in the coil spring to push up and down on the control arm to check for play.

I will try that thanks. Lower ball joints the play was easy to feel. Boots torn up good too. Its got 188K so if TRW are original I guess they need to come out. My bump stops are non existent. Not sure when they came out.
