I saw this 2007 3.7 with 81 k for sale today. Looked pretty decent however this coolant tank has me concerned. Seems to have particulate inside. Wish I could have gotten better photos. Oil did not appear to have coolant inside. Thanks for any advice

Welcome to the forums.
I see the fine particulate, with some of it floating.
My question is did someone potentially add some pepper, as a stop gap measure to fix a leak in system at some point ?

The Jeep's coolant could use a good flush by the looks of it.
Inquire at a Jeep dealer to see if they have a "Pressurized coolant re-circulating machine"
This service is the best method of removing all the old coolant and restoring it to completely new HOAT coolant.

This would also be a good time to replace the thermostat (Mopar Only) & hoses if necessary.
The only type of coolant for our Jeep's should be "Mopar Hoat" or "Zerex-G05" ONLY !!!!

Agreed. Time for a flush.

I have seen people add pepper before but this doesn’t appear to be pepper material. Does anyone think this is really a major issue or just needs a flush? It’s got me
hinging on whether to purchase the Jeep or not. It’s also a little strange the Jeep has only been driven 175 miles in 2 years. No engine codes and passed NC inspection in 2020.
Thanks again

No engine codes is good, have you test drove the Jeep?
15 year old jeep averaging about 5400 k miles per year.
Is this a dealer sale or private, any history of maintenance?
Any rust ?
Flush with Hoat & you should be fine..

Yes I test drove it locally during traffic it drove dell. Would have hit the highway but with traffic there was no point. Definitely planning on one more test drive. It’s a dealer sale. The only maintenance I’ve seen is it passed the nC emissions and safety inspection with miles recorded both times. There was not really any rust some on the wheels however it needs tires. At the local junkyards we can get a really nice set of the trail rated style for under 150. Then install new tires. Of course it needs a little work like a window regulator, ball joints fluids etc.

Emission pass sounds good, no engine light etc, however I'm not sure what a NC safety inspections consists of.
Have you seen it up on a hoist, looking for any major rust & any fluid leaks?

Junkyard trail rated tires? Stay clear of Wrangler SRA or Wrangler ST -No Traction, all slip radials!
Old tires can be super dangerous !! Do you know how to read a tire date code? Tires should no more than 5 years old. See image below to decode.
Jeep is heavy & Look for AT or All terrain tires- see our tire section: https://www.jeepkj.com/forums/tires-wheels.200/
