Took Bert out for a long drive after work, the first in a long while. Bit of freeway, bit of corn grid, some of what passes for hills here, etc.

An old issue from last summer reappeared, one that I thought was a symptom of a worn out front end.

Put some long drive time on her and the steering gets stiff. No creaking or noises or anything. Park and let it sit for a bit and it’s fine. Hop back on the road (freeway speeds) and it stiffens back up.

Stumped. Beyond my current level of knowledge, so gonna hit the depths and learn tonight!

Worked on the 03 Renegade today. Replaced passenger side control arm, same thing has driver side both 18mm bolts come off at ease with extensions and swivel(excessive amount of pb blaster)also removing the air box before the procedure. Got my hands on the passenger side lower ball joint and also replaced the passenger side tie rod end (had to hit it with some heat it was basically rust welded together) by the looks of it I’m changing the driver side outer tie rod end.

I did the Fan Dance today. Now I have all four speeds. It got easier when I realized I could reach the lower scr3w from below. Which of course means that I dropped something in order to make the discovery.

Ordered some OEM tail lights from DeadJeeparts on eBay. They just came in today and they are in great condition. Can’t wait to see the 07 KJ with some fresh tail lights instead of old cracked ones.
I like the 05-7 tail lights way better than the 02-04s , have them on the 03 and 04 , swapped them out years ago

Heads up gang: apparently there is an ATF-4 shortage? Went to four autoparts shops today, and they got nothing. Walmart had some weird brand from China I have never heard of for two bucks a quart, but that ain’t going in my Bert.

Had to order from Scamazon.

Yes they are 02-04s are the same
then 05-07s they changed and have clear lenses over the turns as posted above
Well that's cool there's a difference, makes me want the 02-04's knowing it'd make mine look different haha.

That is why I changed my 04s out to 05s in 2005
but then it seems a lot of owners do not the difference anyways LOL

That’s good to know. Must be a locality thing. I even called a few around Omaha and they have zero in stock too. Just the way things are these days I guess.

I put some aftermarket haolgen reverse lights in about a year after I got it. They were awesome. Trouble was they would burn out about every three months...

It’s been between -20F and -30F the past couple mornings. That clutch pedal really firms up! The jeep’s loving it’s new garage life.

Got up and started Bert to warm up for the drive to work.(I don’t normally do that, but it was -5F) Came out a few minutes later to a grinding noise under the hood. Remembered that sound from the desert. AC clutch bearing. Endura to the rescue till a replacement arrives.

Everything is coated with road salt, even under the hood.

Cyclone prefilter on the snorkel had almost about five grams of dust and salt. Checked the Apollo filter- it’s spotless. For once research pays off.
