Thanks for the input!

Billwill, I may just try taking it apart and cleaning it. Maybe I could get one of the local auto parts stores to test it out for me before I wrestle in back on! Thanks for outlining the steps involved.
Might as well, you've got nothing to loose

Good luck on the Flowmaster
I ran one for a short while and drone was so bad you could not talk to anyone else at 65-70 MPH
What kind of tires did you install?
What year and color KJ do you have ?

Sometimes rebuild kit is available. Not always today.

The big thing is, it may need new brushes. They may be worn down too short.

I got a kit for a Honda motorcycle that I had and my neighbor rebuilt the starter. Worked like new.

There is a small company around here that may rebuild them.

When I lived in Los Angeles there were quite a few companies that were rebuilding starters, etc. Low prices and guaranteed.

But if you really want longevity of it, just get a new factory oem one.

Washed and waxed the Liberty KK. Took almost a full can of wax.

I discovered a switch near the rear license plate that says window. It doesn't do anything. I'm wondering if this is the same switch someone else posted about that only worked in winter, or colder weather.

I may open the rear gate and replace or just clean it, if possible.

The rear window opens with a double push on the key. And flops all the way up since I put in new hydraulic lifts or whatever they call them.

When I bought the 05 for my Step Father the rear lift struts were bad on rear window
I installed new ones a week later and first time he opened it about took his hat off LOL
He had opened it with the old ones which barely worked , but new ones BAM it was up

Cleaned out the inside on one of mine ( the 03 ) , vacced it out, cleaned all interior panels , cleaned glass, cleaned and conditioned the leather seats
Then it started raining, so gave it a Redneck wash and rinse job

Today Jeepy hauled about 5 cubic yards of garden soil in 2, 30 mile round trips...

Building raised beds for friends and for our church has become a Covid quarantine hobby. Today we got the dirt and some plants!

Got to go find the ibuprofen now. Had a lot of friends helping out but did my share of shoveling and lifting too.

Today I'm thinking about replacing or putting in the rear transmission cross member.

But, I want to first decide if I should get a new rear transmission mount (assembly as it appears to be two parts).

The 4 studs facing down into the cross member are nicely rusted and it would be more secure to have new ones.

I want to check my plan for supporting the drive line, including transmission and transfer case also before I start on it.

If I need or if I am going to get the mount I need to order it. The transmission oil pan is late in arriving, it went from AZ to LA CA, to Denver CO, then to Utah. So it's late. And I can't yet finish that.

Maybe I should go for a motorcycle ride, but high wind is predicted, and the least good thing to ride in is wind.

No, I got under the Jeep and took off the old rear transmission mount cross member. And put on the new one.

I used the old fasteners, except for the nuts onto the transmission mount.

There was some rust on all of them but nothing that would jeopardize their holding ability.

There was some good surface rust on the old one, but no holes in it. New one looks nice.

The old one:

Add parking brake pads and hardware.

found the mystery rattle from rear exhaust. One of the hangers is broke off right next to the pipe.

also found the top of the rear control arm has a rust hole on it.

Also add on the front discs were rusted onto the hubs yesterday.

Rotated the tires on the wifes 02 and one of the front wheel studs snapped off. Guess that will give me something to do this weekend.
