Alright so it’s not that it won’t start all of the time. The majority of the time it fires right up, but sometimes when I turn the key forward it won’t start up or try to turn over, but once I take the negative battery cable off and put it back on it will fire right up. Any idea what this could be?

You ideally need to try pull some codes out...maybe pulling the cable off the battery resets the error.

But I think it is probably just a coincidence that this happens....more likely a bad Actuator Pin Assembly.

Is this a manual or auto?

If it is a manual then the clutch over-ride switch may be faulty.

First try start it in Neutral instead of Park.

Then with ignition ON, remove the Starter Relay from under the hood.

Make sure you are not in gear or in drive and briefly jumper female pins 30 and 87 together in the empty relay socket together...engine should turn over and start if fuse #8 40 A is OK.

If it does turn over and start then the Actuator Pin Assembly is suspect or the clutch over-ride switch if a manual.;)

It’s not a manual it’s a automatic. Unfortunately there are no error codes other than a evap leak due to my gas cap

It’ll start most of the time just occasionally maybe 1/50 times it happens and it’s almost like the battery’s dead when it won’t start I don’t get dash lights or anything and it won’t try to turn over

OK not getting any dash lights would point to a major loose connection somewhere, bad ground, or a faulty Actuator Pin Assembly or bad Ignition Switch.

The fact that when you disconnect the negative battery lead and re-connect it then things work again could mean the other end of that cable...where it connects to the chassis...could be loose or have a dirty connection which clears up for a while after moving the cable about.

Best to check both battery connector cables are clean and tight both ends.
Also check the engine grounding straps...one on the rear of each head on the V6...are clean and tight all ends.

If you have a thick cable...ideally as used in Jumper Cables...instead of removing the negative battery lead rather clamp one end of the Jumper cable to the negative battery post and the other end to chassis or engine and see if it then gets ignition lights ON and if engine turns over.

Sounds like fun!;)

KJ electrical gremlins. Always lurking in the shadows. I agree with BillWill. Sounds like an electrical "open" that is fixed when you reconnect the cable. Make sure you have a good ground.
