My daughter's 2006 Liberty has an intermittent turn signal problem for the last year or so. It started as the right rear just stopped working. Replaced bulb, cleaned socket and nothing worked. Replaced the light housing which includes the sockets and the circuit board and everything seemed to work fine a several months. Recently she started having intermittent failure of the same turn signal, but sometimes it works just fine or the right rear will work fine, but the right front does not. Could this be a problem with the flasher located in the fuse box? Short of trying to trace all the wiring for a short circuit, looking for some advice. Of course she has an inspection sticker renewal at the end of the month, so pressure is on dad now... Thanks in advance.

Mine does the same thing, I found that its the bulb. My right Rear was doing it for a long time, you could take it out, clean it, and put it back in and it would work great for awhile. I put a new bulb in it, and it has worked great. However now my Left back is doing the same thing. I don't know the cause of it, but it seems to be related to the bulb just going bad.

I suppose the bulb in the front could be bad again, but I replaced it ~12 months ago and they generally last at least a few years. Will knock off the simple stuff in the process, but any other thoughts on other things to look at?

There is no such thing as a Flasher located in the fuse box...unless Jeep slipped something in without telling us about it!;)

The Hazard Switch on the front dash that you press to flash all turn signals at once has a lot of circuitry built into it and it does the flashing of the right or left turn signals.

The Hazard Switch is pretty robust.

The Multifunction Switch which is the switch containing the Stalks at the top of the steering column for switching lights ON/OFF and for activating the left or right Turn signals goes into the Hazard Switch.

The Multifunction switch does cause problems but basically the two Right-side turn lamps are in parrallel and likewise the two Left-side turn lamps are in parrellel so a faulty Multifunction switch would cause front and rear lamps on one side to fail at the same time.

So it could be the Bulbs making bad contact in their sockets...the current of the bulbs have been known to heat up the contacts in the sockets causing the contacts to sink back into the plastic and thereby make bad contact but this normaly only applies to the High and Low Beams.

Or you have bad wiring somewhere.

Test the bulbs by activating the Hazard Switch..they should all light at the same time!

I will look at the wiring diagrams for the 2006 KJ...there could be a bad connector that needs re-plugging.

Is this a Gasser or a CRD?o_O

Thanks for the reply and info. I made an assumption about the flasher, good to know they incorporate into the hazard switch circuit. I will test the hazard switch and also plan to replace the bulb and look at/clean the socket. It's a gasser, appreciate any other info you find.

Gasser.

I tested hazard switch and all but the right front blinker worked. I replaced the bulb and cleaned the socket with emery cloth and used some dielectric grease. So far so good. Sometimes it is the simple stuff and I overthink it. Thanks for the responses.

Had the same periodic problem when I bought in February. Started up again 2 weeks ago. Replaced rear right bulb. Good for now.

Random bit of info, all of the bulbs are original in my KJ. Kinda wild.

All the bulbs...except the headlight bulbs...in my 2002 Export CRD are the original! I replaced the feeble headlight bulbs with a good quality Sylvania.

The Export models have different headlight fittings to the USA models...and we can raise/lower the beams from inside the cabin!;)

I would check fuses. No. 11 fuse 15amp blue located on driver side before checking the hazard relay(the hazard button is an integrated flasher relay).
