My daughter has an 02 Ltd. I put a new head unit in it. Used a wire harness and spliced the power wire in. Now her speakers will randomly emit this God awful squeal. The only way to make it stop is to shut the vehicle off. It is becoming more and more frequent.

Anybody experience this? If you could point me in the right direction I would appreciate it.

I did use the search function and it returned no topics.

Most common cause of speaker whine is through the alternator.
The issue at hand is that noise from the alternator is getting into your head unit via the power cables. You can Install a noise filter between the alternator and the battery.
Could also be a loose or intermittent ground connection.

This isn't like any whine I've heard from interference of the alternator before. This is a very high pitched screech that I can only equate to the old dial up internet tone or calling a phone number with a fax machine on the other end. As for a ground issue, the ground wasn't touched since I used a wire harness and this issue was not present with the factory HU.

Wasn't present with the factory HU ... doesn't sound like a Jeep problem or one that can be fixed on the Jeep side of the wiring harness. I'd start with QA-ing the harness installation and looking in that area for any wires crossed with other wires behind the dash or wires that may have been damaged while working in the area. Since it's intermittent with really no rhyme of reason, sounds like maybe an uninsulated wire grounding out or getting crossed with something else due to vibrations or movement.

If everything matches up with the harness and wiring going through the area you were working in, next I'd contact the new HU vendor or manufacturer for thoughts and direction.

Also ... was it a direct HU replacement or did you have to do any dash modifications to get it to fit?

And with the engine off and the key switch in the accessory position, does it still squeal from time to time. If so, that would eliminate any possible alternator interference ... i think.

I dunno, just sounds to me like maybe you "shot yourself in the foot" with some phase of the installation or the harness and or HU is defective or an inadequate match for the KJ.
