This is one of those easy-actually-harder ways ;) I've been there a bunch.
Obviously I haven't seen your car, but an acrylic laqour clear coat is likely your friend (gloss or matte). Sand with 2 stages minimum (maybe 400 to blend and 1000 to cover), do the whole hood, wet wipe between (or just wet sand), degrease (dont skip this), then clear spray (rattle can) the whole hood, then polish with cloth and cream if gloss. Thats the minimalist DIY auto paint method I've had success with personally. Thats like $50 all in and actually has a chance of lasting a while. Maybe 3h of work plus some waiting between clear coats. Super worth it. Paint issues can really drag on if you make poor choices... and simple paint cans are nowhere near up to the task of car hoods. Think of the heat, the cold, wind, rain. That has been my experience anyway.
I don't doubt what you'rea saying and I appreciate the advice. The paint I plan to use i used previously on my stock steel wheels and it lasted years with no clear coat. I don't doubt that what you're saying is the better way, but I've lost some paint down to metal in some spots too. I might change my mind by the time I get around to doing it. I don't mean to bragg, but I have pulled off some amazing results with a simple rattle can in the past. I'll let you guys know how it turns out.

Leave it to the idiots who transplanted an engine in my 06 (before i bought it) to foul something else up!

Tonite’s project was supposed to be a quickie. R&R valve cover gaskets. Right side was leaking and no problem. Off to the left side. Vc off, cleaning it up and notice a pencil sized hole thru the rear of the vc. Now debating a fix with pc7 epoxy (similar) or a trip to my second home lately, the parts kj’s at my u-pull-it. Leaving on vacation next saturday and guess which kj WON’T be road ready! Dang hack job guys. I should re-name this kj to ‘what’s next’

Just picked up a 2003 KJ Renagade.
Removed all the undercarriage armour and prepped it all for painting. Lady driven since new. So there is not a scatch on any of the skid plates or gas tank armour.
Also gave the undercarriage a scrub in areas with a wire brush and put a dab of paint to slow down the corrosion.
Painted the rear end and coils while I was under there.

Rear upper control arms. Thought my ****** or Rear differential was shot. The bushings had disintegrated. All gone with new upper control arm. 249,000 miles.

Now get ready to do suspension upgrade and have a great riding and handling KJ
bet its sagged down a lot

I would not know a sagged one from a good one. Is there any measurements I can take.
Maybe, I have to go for a ride in a modified suspension model to know the difference

Measure left front, ( on level ground of course ) middle of the wheel to bottom of the flare
after build date of April 12, 2002 they were 19 inches


Plus in my world they had weak suspensions from the factory, bought my 04 new off the lot, OME aftermarket suspension installed before I had owned it 4 months, so much better

I have had 07s come into my shop an inch lower than stock with 80,000 miles on it , owner wondered what the noise was LOL hitting bumpstops every crease in the road

Well, finally had a chance to measure this and the fronts were bang on 19" and the rears were closer to 20".
Question, leave it like this or start changing the suspension parts.
All I've done so far on the suspension is paint it all gloss black.
Undercarriage is starting to look nicer than the paint job..

Someone has recently changed the springs out it appears
By the time these have 55-60,000 miles they start to sag worse than Grandma
The front springs are very weak, only 310 lb where they should of been in the 345-350 range, would of rode and handled way better and lasted longer.
I can not stand to ride one mile in a stock KJ with OE type springs and shocks
You could blindfold me and I could tell the difference

Changed out my rear diff oil and there a lot of metal spare parts in the oil and on the magnet.
Clean it out out and found that the bevel gear (side gears) look like a Rottweiler has been chewing on them. Actually, only one side gear is chewed up.
Axle bevel gears look in good shape.
It's a Dana 8.25 with trac loc.
Any idea that they look in such rough shape. Crown and pinion look brand new.
Went with Lucas 75W-140 Gear oil and it already has the friction modifier in it.
No Leaks yay!!

I dropped the fuel tank and replaced the Fuel Pump/Sending unit and got rid of the U1411 code I was getting. Then had a slow leak in the evaporation line and got a new code for a "Very Minor Leak". I thought I fixed that, and now it spits fuel out when filling it. This is not the "end of the fill blurp"; this is instantaneous when I pull the trigger. I can fill it but i have to let the fuel run in at a trickle. Any thoughts? I plan on revisiting the evapline off the top of the tank that I already "fixed".
