Mine hit 283k and the engine has just about had it. I think i blew the head gasket as its leaking coolant and blowing white smoke out of the exhaust. Probably going to look into swapping the 4.7 with the 45 or 454 transmission.

I have an 06 Liberty with 175,000 miles, driveline is great. This weekend I'm picking up an 03 for $200 (!) that has around 250,000 miles. All I know is that is runs and has been regularly driven lately, so there must not be any catastrophic problems. As far as engine & transmission, how long could these reasonably last? I can deal with anything else, but I don't want to R&R an engine on a 250K mile Liberty.

As a follow-up, I also had an 02 with 220,000 miles. That ran good also, but needed a coil pack, O2 sensors, and exhaust right before we traded it in on my wife's new KL.

2003 3.7 150k miles. Sole owner.

Replaced Radiator, power steering reservoir, brake rotors w/ 2 calipers.

Needs: Front struts, rear shocks. Many cosmetics. Possibly engine mount..? Muffler. Probably time to put a new belt on her.

Runs well. Burns some oil, about a quart per 5k miles.

Thoughts?

A new-to-me 02 Sport 4x4 w/ 150k does have a transmission with around 100k miles in it, still runs smooth and strong.

In the two months that I've had it I've done spark plugs, cleaned the throttle body and idle control valve, replaced PCV, air filter, flushed the PS system.

Have a new cam position sensor coming to fix the old leaking one that's dribbling oil down the passenger side of the engine. Wanna replace the beat looking exhaust. Need to change diff and transfer case fluids. Need to chase down some rear suspension noise. OME lift in the future. And a few other little things.

So far really enjoying it!

2004 3.7L 124K miles, second owner at 100K miles.

Replaced radiator, water pump and torque converter.

2005 3.7L 210K miles, second owner at 65K miles.

Replaced alternator, radiator, radiator fan clutch, water pump, steering pump hoses and self rebuilt power steering pump.

Both are running great with regular schedule maintenance.

Bought a bluetooth FM transmitter, Nulaxy NX09, from eBay for $15, it has a built in voltage reader. Plug it in before starting the engine, it will tell you your car battery voltage, unplug it and plug back in after starting, it will tell you current charging voltage. That way you know your car battery and charging system is working properly.

Got a 2004 with 248,000. 2nd owner. Picked it up 5 years ago with 163,000. New coil packs and 2o2 sensors then. At 2004 new water pump and timing chain but most likely it was the radiator, shocks and struts at. 230k heater core, a compressor, last valve cover gaskets. Runs nice. Work horse, looks nice, runs well on the beac.

Just rolled over 185,000 on my 2007 Jeep liberty Finished spraying new undercoating underneath and I am trying to trace down a weird clunk coming from the back passenger side. I am on a 3" lift all the way around ( yes it rubs a little in the front.

One of mine, ( the 04 ) I bought new, 235,000 miles on it
upgraded suspension before 20,000 miles
worst parts on a KJ is the suspension , springs and shocks are total junk from the factory
