Hey everyone! Jake here, I love the liberty!! I bought a 2002 gasser a couple years ago today actually! And it dropped a valve seat a month into owning it lol. So at that time I parked it in hopes to rebuild the motor and I bought a 2005 CRD for a great price to drive around til then. Then as fate would have it.. i bought a 3rd 2006 gas Jeep Liberty this week so I figured I’d better make an account on here since I rely on your threads so often anyway! But back to the 2002 motor.. I rebuilt it this last winter.. pistons .40 over, bearings, head work, ect... the exciting part about it is that im going to be throwing a super charger on there hopefully this summer yet! I’ll post some pics later today hopefully! Anyone here ever boosted a 3.7/4.7?? It’s a long shot i know but figured Id try haha

There was a Kenne Bell supercharger for the 3.7 but it was only out for a short time before they realized it damaged the engines. Here is a thread detailing what happened:

If you rebuilt your 3.7 with different stronger pistons then it may still be possible for you. But if you’re using the original 3.7 pistons, they are not up to dealing with the additional force.

I can't wait to see it, but after dealing with my son's 16 cruze 1.4L, I'd be hard pressed to deal with another turbo on a gasser unless it is built with replaceable parts ( read waste gate)

Now, on a diesel, Hell Yeah! My duramax screams with the turbo and does not even realize he is pulling 10K

I love the threads ifhoward! However the crd’s turbo pushes way to much psi... I was looking to max at MAYBE 10psi not almost 30 lol I upgraded the pistons! Ill post a comparison picture with the old pistons! Its funny.. but yeah haha I know you cant boost a gas engine, im gonna blow it up, etc haha. If i wanted to hear all that I’d invite my friends over lol. I like diesel but my girlfriend needs something to drive and upkeep on two diesels isn’t something im too keen on haha. I want the forced air for the mountains. It is also my belief... based on zero facts.. that i will get better mpg with the supercharger on there!

The new pistons look a lot beefier, especially the thickness between the top of the piston and the first ring. Hope the supercharger works for you!! Please keep us posted.

Once owned a super charged Xterra that my wife drove. It got horrible mileage, less than 10mpg. I think most of that was because she liked to hear the super charger so her foot was always on the floor.

Are you adding a supercharger or turbocharger? They are different things, I'm sure you know.

Duh. :D
I got a turbo neon; hearing that turbo whistle is like 100% of the point of the car! :D
Luckily, if I drive it like a grandma, it gets 24mpg. If I drive it like Brock Yates, it gets 23mpg. :D
Worst it's ever seen is from a track day, 200 miles on track, at 13mpg, and I was driving it hard.

If those pistons work well for the SC, I'd be tempted to start figuring out of twin turbos wouldn't be a possibility :D

Im adding a super charger. And turbos are way to much fab. I can keep stockish exhaust with a super charger, although im working on an intake manifold for the super charger right now so it’s not all that much easier. Personally I find it annoying when people try to make their turbo louder than it needs to be.. or if they make anything excessively loud

do a build/how-to thread if you feel like it.
