I’m missing going camping these days. The trailer goes in for its yearly PA state inspection on Thursday.

Here are some more pics of my KK with my camping trailer. The trailer is built on a military generator trailer chassis, the M116A3.

If anyone wants details on the trailer, it’s documented in my build thread over on the Teardrops & Tiny Travel Trailers forum.

That's an awesome setup! What campground were those pics taken?
I am actually not totally sure, but it is either Ricketts Glen State Park or Gifford Pinchot State Park. Both are in Pennsylvania and both have camping loops with similar oak forest by a lake! I recommend them both!

I grew up in Simsbury, CT, the home of the Gifford Pinchot Sycamore. That thing is HUGE.

Wow that’s awesome!! What a huge tree.

Pinchot was the first chief of the US Forest Service and also served two terms as the governor of Pennsylvania. He and his wife Cornelia helped make child labor illegal and secure the right to vote for women. They are a couple of my personal heroes.

Yep, and he was born in Simsbury. We're a bit proud of him.
Awesome. Is that near New Haven? I toured the Pinchot estate at Milford PA and learned that he always took his first year students from the Yale Forestry School to Milford for some practical training in the PA woods.

No, Simsbury is near Hartford (about 20 mins northwest). The bridge in the pic above crosses the Farmington River, which is a branch of the Connecticut River.

Nice! I'm originally a PA guy from the Scranton area. I've been to Ricketts several times over the years. The Milford PA Gifford estate (Grey Towers) is awesome! Those giant European Beech trees. Haven't been to the park near York. Heading to Promised Land tomorrow.

Nice! Which loop are you camping on? About 10 years ago we camped in the Pines loop, but a big storm had knocked the majority of the big white pines down the year before. Let me know if Promised Land still has the coin operated hot water for showers, lol. :p

Trees are growing back! That tornado was a doozy. Changed the whole park. Coin op hot water is still there and the showers are open again after the COVID shutdown. We have a cabin nearby and I've been going to that park since 1966. I've seen it all.

Since folks seemed to be interested in my camping trailer before, here is what I did to it today.
(This is not totally off topic, since it happened in a parking lot and Jeepy is photobombing as much as possible.)

Today I got under my camping trailer and installed a spare tire winch.

Getting started by bolting on the Chevy/GMC C/K 2500 spare tire winch.

Next came a new crossbeam I made with angle iron. The winch tube fit nicely.

And crank it up.

There is not much loss of ground clearance. I'm very happy with how nicely the tire tucks up under the trailer.

And by doing this mod, I just got a whole lot of room back inside the cabin of my camper!
