Hi I’m new here and I’m glad I found this forum and hopefully I can get so answers to very Confusing question. So this will kind of be a long post so plz bare with me, so I have coolant temp issue starting about a year ago the Jeep would start getting warm going up a hill I live in Colorado so hills are kind of big lol. So I never let get to red but it got close this winter I replaced the water pump and thermostat then just fill it back up and worked for the rest of winter but now it’s summer and the temp issue is back . I drained the system and used a vacuum tool to refill it this time so hopefully no air pockets. But it’s still creeping up in temp on hills under it’s own power (not towing) I had a temperature gun and took some reading and found out my lower rad hose is at 145 degrees going into the rad and my upper going into the thermostat is 185-190? So I’m at a lost. Has any had this same issue? And again sorry for the long post

Sounds like your temp is fine, and your gauge is off. Try a new sender sensor. 190 output is not that hot.

Ok cool but that does that seem right with temp cooler going into the lower rad then the upper ? Going in at 144 and coming out of the upper hose into the motor at 185 ? Oh and iv already replaced the sensor lol twice

Usually the top hose is the "goesinta" and bottom hose is the "goesouta".

Might be your fan clutch is bad since your temps rise on the hills.

No the top hose is the output from engine, if it weren’t then the thermostat wouldn’t function. So yes, it seems perfectly fine to me. Hot water leaves engine past the T stat, if the water came into engine past the t stat then it would instantly cool the stat and close it before the engine actually got cooled. I know it seems odd but that’s how the coolant flows in all engines. Into the top of radiator and out the bottom.

Ok cool I don’t know y I keep thinking it was the other way around so any other ideas on y it would start creeping up in temp on hills. It does have a new fan clutch as well, all tho it is missing its fan Shroud would make big a difference?

Lol it has a new heavy duty clutch but I accidentally ran over the fan shroud lol and now no shroud

Yes the shroud is hugely important but if your fan isn’t even coming on then it wouldn’t really matter. So far you haven’t quoted a temp that would even engage the fan clutch I don’t think. Maybe partial but I think fan doesn’t even come on full until 210 at least. 190 is about vertical on the gauge if I remember right. If it’s not, then either your temp gun is wrong or your gauge is wrong

I’ve done quite a bit of work to get my crd to run 190! I want it to be 195 all the time in a perfect world. But if it gets up to 210 I’m okay with that too. But most crd run too cold at 175 or less.

I wasn't very clear... I meant "goesinta" radiator, not engine.

I have an extra radiator shroud, already modified for easy access to the fan. Available for a medium price and outrageous shipping from AK.

Just a thought which might help - having had similar weird temperature issues (mine was overcooling and repeatedly producing an 'under temperature' fault code) I began replacing stuff: ECT sensor itself, all coolant and the thermostat. No change so I figured it was an electrical management issue with the signal to the sensor. Unplugged the sensor, sprayed both halves with switch cleaner, re-connected it then did same to the orange PCM (computer) connector. Lo and behold..worked fine after that.
