Anyone used this exhaust? If so, what did/do you think? My old stock exhaust is looking pretty, uh, crunched? It looks like it's sat on a few rocks in its lifetime and was thinking about throwing on one of the MBRP cat-back systems when I get around to replacing the exhaust.

Not really looking to get more power or anything. Just looking for a well made bolt on exhaust that sounds decent without being too loud/having too much drone at cruising speed.

If you have other exhaust suggestions I'm also open to them. Even if you have an argument for just throwing another stock replacement I'm down to listen.

Thx in advance!

Yeah I'd noticed it had a really good sounding idle but whenever it was revved it gets a little raucous. Fun but loud exhausts can get old when you have to drive them every day unless it's on something that sounds really good.

Any specific model of Magnaflow you'd recommend?

Yes long trips are not fun, going from Ohio down through WVa, VA and into NC every few weeks through the mountains gets old when you try to talk to the person next to you.
I love the sound of loud exhaust on the right vehicle, right sound but .....

I’ve bought the 2 knock off versions for $150 shipped.
Tom and I might be in the same boat here - we both don’t want that ridiculous loud mbrp sound.
However. With the 2 knock off purchases I made - the one in my 02 sounds amazing. Hardly notice it unless you drove it next to a stick system.
the 03 - it drones for some reason.
Can’t figure it out. Both resonators (the mufflers) are directional and installed correctly. Maybe one has better packing or lack there of

You're talking about knock off Magnaflows right? Which one(s) did you end up going with?

Couldn't seem to find the Speed Daddy (what a name...) ones on eBay, even looking through their eBay store. Like so many things with the KJ it's getting harder to find people still making parts for them!

Speed daddy does sound funny. We used their cheaper headers and down pipes for the 3800s. Of course we did make a jig and ended up re-welding them - it was nice to spend $160 vs 900 for quick budget builds.

I have an MBRP exhaust in the box still. Won't ever use it, it just doesn't promote good exhaust flow. I just run a cheap flowmaster for now.

Yeah I was curious about that too. Maybe he means that it doesn't promote good exhaust flow because it's straight through. The backpressure thing? Idk

Every time I have seen someone troubleshooting problems caused by a new straight through exhaust and they come to the conclusion they don't have enough back pressure (backfiring, carbon builup, whatever the symptoms) they end up discovering that it was something else wrong, and the new straight pipe just made it obvious.

engines do not need backpressure from the exhaust system.

It is straight through, but the issue is that it creates turbulence in the muffler. Basically it has tons of ridges to muffle the sound, but at the same time it also decrease the exhaust velocity. The reason why i am not using it is because the engine is going to be getting a long list of internal upgrades and a true dual exhaust.

Fair enough. I'm not planning to hit the dyno any time soon. Pulling more power out of the engine isn't huge on my list of priorities, it's got enough grunt for me now so as long as it sounds decent and the price is right it checks my boxes, lol.
