What did you do to your jeep today?

Changed the oil, vacuumed out the interior. Too nice of a day to sit inside.

I ordered some wire loom/conduit to replace the brittle, disintegrating looms in the engine bay.



Some engine wires are just hanging there, their looms long since disappeared. I think this probably happened because of the high heat the plastics endured over the last 13 years.

Has anyone else had this happen on their Jeep? Did you replace the looms? What kind of tape did you use to secure them on the ends? Regular black electrical tape gets slippery and comes unstuck in the heat, so I don't want to use that.

You can buy that loom material that looks just like the OE corrugated tube stuff. It will have a slit in it to allow you to slide it over the wire bundle. makes it look pretty factory. I have rolls of a few different diameters out in the garage. There is a cloth like tape for looms that makes for a good finishing touch too.

Geez that KK has got a case of "Crunch & Crumble" going on. Look at the bright side with tinfoil on manifold, you can have hot dogs ready in 5 minutes !

Thanks ltd02 & TC, I just ordered the appropriate cloth tape and it will be here on Thursday. I'll be sure to take some before & after pictures in the engine bay. Basically all the original wire looms under the hood are falling apart or disintegrated. Crispy! More to come...

Hey, at least I don't have this problem! In 2007/08, I think wire looms were still made of petroleum based plastics instead of soy.

Brought it in for it's airbag recall.

And now I have a constant airbag warning light. They claim the light was on when they drove it in, but they forgot to mention it to me. Funny, it wasn't on last week when I brought it in, but had to bring it back b/c the backseat was full of water and stuff, and also wasn't on Friday night when I took a video of the glare on the windshield/dash/hood when the light bar is on and got a passing shot of the cluster. They claim it also has NOTHING to do with the module they replaced today.

There was an 07 I was looking at that I walked away from, as some critters had eaten the wiring at the firewall.

When I got my Libby from the dealer, on the way home I discovered a dead mouse under the hood by the oil filler Two days later I found the nest under my air manifold. Been rodent free AFAIK since then.

Never had any mice issues, but then keep Irish Spring in bags , broken up pieces under the hood, under the seats etc inside, refresh, renew them every few months

Off to the store I go for Irish Spring soap bars now ! Had 1 dead mouse found under hood about a year ago or so, took forever to find it, the smell eek !

BTW the first sign of mouse issues is normally small droppings around the plastic air intake manifold and valve cover areas.
My deceased mouse was found hidden tangled above the main wiring harness, near the firewall (right Photo) sort of up & in behind the brake booster.
Since I have now included mothballs & Gain or Bounce drier sheets, all is well, no more droppings.
I'm still going to store tomorrow to now add Irish Spring into the mix as well.

Luckily no wiring got chewed up. Power soap wash & Lysol Spray utilized in volumes on firewall wires/booster.

I decided to replace the air filter as that was overdue.

Found a nice mouse home made from torn up newspaper inside the air filter intake housing!

No sign of the mouse but always had a smell in the garage I could not locate until I moved a large box on the shelf and found a completely flattened mouse body spread out there!

I don't want new visitors. Maybe I should put some Irish spring in the bottom of the air filter box now too!
Was the air filer box full or packed of news paper material? Hopefully the performance was now restored!

Was yours plugged in? I had started parking my old Dodge Dualie near my garage when I was working 2 days a week in the winter, and between the heat from the heater and not being used for 5 days in a row, mice/squirells where ripping the hood liner and making nests. I would find out when I popped my hood to take the float charger off.

besides that another 10 hour day at work, this stay at home order does not work for me somehow .

Fiddled with one of my airbox sensors to make sure it stays connected. The little plastic catch broke off.

uh oh.

Plastic retainer broke, not good, did you tape it together well?

Can't believe I have not looked inside the airbox since December.

I feel better now. Added Mice stay away- Irish spring flavor today- also a chunk by main wiring harness.
