A couple months back I bought 2003 Jeep Liberty Sport 4x4, 3.7L engine, automatic transmission, and only 104,000 miles for dirt cheap! The owner swore up and down that it had a bad head gasket and that was all that was wrong. I did test drive it and figure out really quick that it was a broken valve cover gasket, not the head. Had that confirmed by 3 separate mechanics, fixed it myself, along with spark plugs, oil change, and 2 vacuum hoses he "fixed" with tape. Since then, I've discovered a few more of his "fixes" on things I'm planning on doing anyways, first one being replacing the upper and lower radiator hoses because I found the lower hose wrapped with tape under the clamp, thermostat, water pump with a new belt and a coolant flush, and the other fix is partially my fault, I read the oil cap, not the book. I discovered the oil cap had been replaced with one that says 5W-20, not 5W-30 like the owner's book and parts stores recommend. I plan to use 5W-30 full synthetic, but do I have anything to worry about from using the wrong oil? Is there anything else I should check and/or replace? I'm eventually going to replace all the exterior lights and back door and glass because previous owner used the spare tire as a stopper and the door is dented, and the glass is only holding on to a third of the latch. Thanks a bunch!

Welcome. As far as the oil goes 5W-30 is the correct grade & change it soon, you should be fine. I would try to find the right 5-30 cap to be properly reminded ha ha..
I would recommend the Mopar thermostat & EPDM rad hoses as they fit perfectly and are marked for easy installation. I prefer keeping the OEM spring clamps in use.
Replace the PCV filter and air filter too.

The oil change is due in about 3 weeks, and I planned on using the Mopar thermostat, and PCV, air filter, and correct oil cap are also on my list and in my rockauto cart, hehe. I just forgot to add that to my list of replacements because my brain files that under general maintenance with wipers and oil filter...... That's what I get for helping my dad and step-dad play with their sports cars and trucks, respectively, hehe

I run Mobil 1 5-w20 oil without issue. Have since I bought it 4ish years ago. And I use Mopar filter. Bought with 120,000 miles and have 156,000 now. My cap says 5-w20 also.

They went to 5-20 to try and get an extra one tenth of a gallon more per gallon
would never run that low, all 3 of mine get 5-30 Mobil 1 full syn

I'm pulling the "book says 5W-30" card, and just get that kinda oil, hehe. But my parts are ordered and hopefully next weekend I'll be able to get this done in a day

I seen a decent independent review if the Rotella gas truck 5-w30. I’ve been thinking if giving that a try next oil change. Plus where the wife works I can get a discount in it. :D

So my parts are showing up a bit earlier than I planned, I know what I'm doing this weekend, lol! I just need to get my oil and a bunch of distilled water and I'll be ready for everything!

Finally got all my parts on today! Had to add a few extras to fix, like exhaust bolts for the passenger side catalytic and transfer case switch, but I'm saving that for next weekend when I have more time and room in my Baby Jeep. Tomorrow is dedicated to cleaning her out and cleaning her up!

I have the G-05 in her now, I already knew that because my boyfriend had a Jeep Grand Cherokee that had a cracked radiator a few years ago. We got that fixed and then some buttmunch had to turn it into scrap metal a year ago.....
