Hi guys I have a jeep liberty 2005 3.7 limited I recently changed the valve cover gaskets and the oil pressure sensor (it was leaking), but now I have a doubt I took the jeep for a small travel I let it rest for the night and when I checked the oil it was below the safe area, I then started the engine warm it up and let it rest for 5 mins and it was even lower (see picture).

I checked the valve covers and the sensor and it didn't leak, and when I check it theres some oil in the safe area but not enought, so I'm puzzled.

What do you guys think what should I check ?. Also I have no low engine level or pressure light on.

Did you change the oil and filter after doing the gaskets and oil sending unit?
Was it in the " safe " zone before your trip ?

Well I didn't change the oil filter I just added more oil to complete what was lost, and yes it was.

Oil filters on these jeeps loosen over time and leak, especially if you push your oil change to 5000. Visibly look at the area around your oil filter. Reach down there and see if you can tighten it. I hope this is your problem.

Ok I will, I'm also going to check the oil pan to see if it has some sort of leak.

Definitely check the oil filter, I had it loosen on me on my last 1,200 mile trip. Changing oil all my life and the Jeep is the first time this has occurred on me.

In over 15 years of ownership, and owning 3 KJs at the moment, so over 300,000 miles I have personally put on them with oil changes done every 3-3500 miles
never ever, never have I had one oil filter come loose
and that is not counting the oil changes done for freiends and neighbors over the years
someone needs to tighten theirs better

well yes first time i see this too, but it was a cheap filter and really old.

i will probably buy a mopar one or a high quality one for the next oil change.

I have never had it come loose in 3000-3500. i never change my oil that frequently. I go 5000. I did pick up mobile 1 and a sweet K&N filter. That set up go 10K. Not on a liberty without getting lose and leaking.

You can argue with me all you want about needing to change oil after 3500. I am old and have multiple older vehicles. I have never (knock on wood) had an issue caused by oil going 5000k.

I shop the junkyard and ebay mostly, there are usually a few on ebay. Something like a valve cover is relatively reliable to go used on as long as it isn't damaged.
