I bought a 2006 Jeep Liberty 6 months ago. It came with oversized rims and tires on it but no lift so sharp turns would make the tires run into the fenders. Two months ago, it started steering poorly so I took it in. The mechanic said the right front ball joint was cracked and the front break callebars were seized. He replaced those and the control arm for three thousand dollars but since then it has been riding extremely rough. I did put the stock tires and rims back on it. Why would it become so bumpy after the fixes when it wasn’t before? I’m not very mechanically savvy and hate to think it’s going to cost a lot more to re-fix this. The whole vehicle is only worth 6k. Ideas?

Maybe you just never noticed since it seems you had a lot of other issues
Word to the wise , never buy one that someone has tried running larger tires without a lift and done properly

NOW first thing, measure from the middle of the wheel on the left front to bottom of the flare and report back to let us know what it is
Next were the tires you installed properly balanced, right air pressue
Third what all did he replace for 3000 dollars ?????
Must of been everything in the front end

Well my 06 doesn't ride very good either, doesn't help the roads are extremely rough here. I'm sure my shocks and struts could be replaced and that would definitely help.

You mean everyone doesn't buy new suspension before they get a KJ ?
On my last one, the 03 I ordered a JBA lift before I ever even started looking for another one, just knew I liked what I had on the 04 and needed another lift like it LOL
So lift was delivered before I even tried out the 03, even had the front and rear diffs ready with the 4.10s
Good thing I found one LMAO

Ive had my 06 for 4 years, it's all stock. I am a very outdoorsy person and spend 99% of my time in the woods when I can. I can go anywhere I want with my jeep and that's all that matters too me. I'm the type of person just drive it if it breaks fix it and carry on, no point in fixing something that isn't broke. I also realize the jeep ain't no Caddy either.

If it's stock, the suspension is broke. Came from the factory that way. If you spend as much time on dirt roads as it sounds, do yourself a favor and put ome springs and ome or Bilstein shocks on your Jeep... you'll wonder why you waited so long.

Totally agree
KJs have the worst suspension even brand new , way worse than anything I've owned over the last 50 years

There is nothing broke on my jeep. I just had the rear ups replaced, I'm sure the shocks and struts could be replaced.

Well, I just contribute that too it being a jeep but yes it rides quite rough. I probably should replace the shocks and struts at some point.

No , wrong on it being a Jeep ride, suspension is worn out.
Little back story, I bought my 04 new, within a week I was reading up what springs and shocks were available since the ride was crap over any little bump or any different road conditions than flat smooth.
I found OME to be available for the KJs ( had used OME on a couple of XJs in the past ) and started saving money up, and oredering parts . Within a few months it was fitted with OME 927/948 combo and new shocks
I was a happy camper then, rode great and handled curves, dips, holes RR tracks etc with ease

KJs should of came with 345-350 lb front springs but only came with 310 lb ( gassers )

Oh we do not have struts on KJ, we have coilover shocks in front. Struts are only on vehicles that do not have upper control arms

NEVER just replace shocks, installing new shocks on old worn out springs will just wear the shocks out faster due to extra bounce etc . Gotta do it right or not at all

I'm sure mine are pretty well wore out considering its a 06 with 240,000kms. But I do have a very good mechanic in my opinion and he's never suggested replacing them yet. I will most likely get around to replacing them sooner then later. I just looked it up on Napa it's called a strut modular assembly for the front.

Also I wouldn't nessicarly say my jeep rides horrible and Infact it's not real bad at all. I mean it's rough but not horrible for the roads we travel on, I will have to do front and rear sometime but just with Napa parts.

any over 60,000 miles are worn out
also for their ease of selling some list them as struts BUT having been doing suspension work starting back in 1972 they are coilover shocks on KJs

I'm not arguing with you on what there called im going by part names. Well I guess since my jeep has 150,000 miles they would be pretty wore out wouldn't they? I'm sure they have been replaced at some point.

I've replaced coils and shocks of KJs with 70-75,000 miles that were 1.5 to 2 inches lower than stock.
One 07 that we did 3 inch OME lift on,( was 2 inches lower than stock) first drive after owner fell out when we got back due to bringing suspension up 5 inches total and then new taller tires LOL
My 05 was one owner, garage kept, only good roads , never on a dirt road at 78,000 1/2 inch below new stock
My 03 also one owner garage kept all service records owned by older couple with 75,000 and almost an inch below new stock
both hit bumpstops a lot when I got them, and both I got for way less than asking price since I mentioned new suspension and other things that would need replaced
