Big hello to everyone out there. This is my 4th Liberty. Couldn't find a decent enough 1996-01 Cherokee around upstate NY.THEY ALL HAVE RUST ISSUES. Bought this latest liberty last week. Doing some long overdue maintenance and general "get it back to my satisfaction" level. On my previous non-limited 04-Liberty's the gear indicator light bulb was a relatively easy swap even though it had to constantly be adjusted. I saw a video on youtube and did it myself after that. However,on this Limited 06,the console is not the same as the 04. Can anybody give me some info on that swap out?The light isn't working.I was pleased to find out this level has the full time 4x4 option as well as part time! Thanks! P.S. is there a way to program extra keys in the 06 if I only have 1 remote?

not sure how to swap your bulb, but as far as the keys go, if you only have 1 you cannot program another without a dealers scan tool.

A locksmith can duplicate your existing key, but it will not be unique code on the chip so it will not allow you to add additional remote fobs.

to program new key codes and or new fobs with only 1 key, you must go to the dealer I am afraid.

starting with 1 key only, it cost me about $600 to get 2 fobs and a second key at a dealer.

I have the fob and other keys.Just need programming. I actually bought these for the 05 I had and they're the same for 06. Wish I could get my hands on a Chrysler programmer for 10 minutes,

Trying to save myself a buck, I bought NEW fobs/keys online and planned to take them into a locksmith to cut/program.

Found out locksmiths cannot add new fobs/keys without at least 2 unique key codes.

Found out that dealer will not cut/program keys and fobs you supply, you MUST purchase the keys and fobs from them in order for them to program them.

Luckily I was able to return the ones I bought online.

I have never tried to re-use a key/fob from one vehicle to the next so not sure about that, but I wouldn't be suprised if your stealership does the same as mine.

I'd also check to make sure the bulb is not the culprit. My Full time light doesn't come on but the bulb is working so it's probably the position switch that has an issue but it does go into FT properly.
No,that light works fine. It's the prnd etc light that doesn't light up.

I bought an uncut '05 key/fob on eBay - Jeep OEM - and my local Jeep dealer cut and programmed it for $50. They're normally a total stealership, so yours must be a lot worse.

Find a locksmith who can program fobs and the transponder key. I'd recommend one for you if you were in my neck of the woods.

the one I've dealt with have their own scan tools but it'll be cheaper than the dealership.
You could craiglist the service or google maps to find one in your area.
They should be able to also program an OEM fob and key as well.
