Does anyone out there who has clear side lights use "switchback" LED's in them? They are supposed to be white when driving lights and then flash yellow when you use your turn signal.

I can figure out how the 3157 bulb can do this because it normally has two filaments, but the 168 confuses me as they only have one, and wondered if anyone else had them. Thanks in advance.

I could see doing this with relay's and 2 bulbs, and a rats nest of wire's. Not worth the effort in my opinion.

so you are wanting clear sidemarkes with either: 2 168 bulbs (one yellow one white) OR 1 bulb (like two color 3157) that can do the color switching on its own internally.

I don't think those exist (i couldn't find any), at least not that mount in the factory location. Couldn't even find regular clear side-markers.

If a clear side-marker does exist it will still only have 1 bulb spot in it to match the factory design/wiring. you might have some luck looking for a 2 element bulb that fits in a 168 mounting spot, but you will still need to change the connector and wiring to provide running lamp power to them AND the turn signal to them.

Alternatively, there are "universal" marker lights you can install. They are universal in the sense that they are not designed to fit any one vehicle. Lots of different shapes/styles and options, and they should all be easy enough to wire up to the running lamps/turn circuits. The real work on this one is finding one that looks nice AND does what you want.

The side markers on my Libby have 2 bulbs. A 3157 facing forward and a 168 on the side.

They sell both 3157's and 168's as "Switchback" LED's that are supposed to be white when used as marker/Parking light, and then yellow when you engage the turn signal. I understand how the 3157 can do that, as it is a dual filament bulb, and there are 4 leads into the bulb, and all it would require to work is different leads getting different signals, which they do already(parking lights are constant on, the blinkers make the 2nd filament flash), and the driver chip making the right LED's light up.

However, the 168 only has two leads, so I can't figure out how it could figure out if it's supposed to be white or yellow based on inputs alone.

I was wondering if anyone had them and could recommend a specific set or model number. As it is, I may just go with the Switchback 3157s, and leave my amber LED 168's exactly as they are.

if you read the description, there's an IC to detect when it's blinking to change the color.
I just looked and realized the 168 in the title/description is the amount of LED's on the light. It's a 7443 bulb, which is a dual filament bulb. Oops.
