Needing some mechanical help. On vacation away from my shop and scan tool but have basic tools with me. 2010 Liberty 3.7 4x4 when ignition key is turned jeep fires up but runs like some one has it by the throat, miss fires, rattles and farts. Turn key off and retry and it fires up and runs fine. Some times it takes 5 or 6 restarts. This happened about a year ago intermittently then stopped. At the time i figured if I didn't hold the key in the start position long enough this is when it would happen. Problem was absent until now and its happening multiple times a day. Thanks in advance. Welcome to the site! Strange issue for sure. Timing chaining going out? Have you changed out the spark plugs recently?

Thanks for the reply. no plug change as of late, i've had chain issues on other vehicles doesn't feel like that. today only happened once and it seems like the starter is continuing to be engaged while its running poorly. and if you have ever had engine run on after key is turned off this is very similar. no heater fan engages or anything that typically turns on in the run position when its not starting right. i am leaning towards ignition or a relay getting stuck in the start system

Starter solenoid may be sticking and not retracting.

Or the ignition switch or Actuator Pin assembly may be faulty...not sure what sort of Actuator Pin a 2010 KK uses...on the KJs this was a common failure.

The fact that no fans etc. turn on and mis-firing would point to the ignition switch/actuator....you could pull the switch off the actuator pin assembly and with key in ignition slot for SKEES rotate the ignition switch itself with a small screwdriver.

Thanks for the reply. I like your suggestions i had thought maybe bendix not returning. I think i will try to source a ignition switch and change that out first. The thought of the actuator pin not being able to return makes a lot of sense to me I don't think the pin itself is broke as it wouldn't start at all. But not returning to run position would explain the lack of fan. Ignition switch is available near by but actuator will have to be ordered in.
