The company I work for recently sold me my work vehicle; it is a 2007 Jeep Liberty KJ. Since then I have been looking at it thinking Hrrrm.. Mud tires, Lift kit, and Bull Bar! and then FUN!!!! But the question I have is, what is a good site to get a full lift kit from. I would like to buy it all together as a kit if possible, or do you guys suggest I buy stuff separate? I am looking for something around a 2.5 to 3, from what I understand you will need to get break line extenders. I am new to the lift kit world, but not to automotive repair.

Any suggestions? From sites that won’t break the pocket book.

Thank you for any suggestions in advance! Unless that suggestion is to go jump off a bridge! :p

OME 927 front springs, either OME or Bilstein shocks and teraflex front bumpstops
rear OME 948 springs, rear shocks OME 132Ls or ones for a 99-04 Dakota 4x4 Clubcab, then 2 hockey pucks per side bolted down to the lower spring perch
the above will give you 2.5 inches of lift and be able to install 30-31. 5 in ch tall tire
any larger, more lift and a regear will be in order
even with 30.5 inch tall I run 4.10 gearing to get mileage, power back

all the above has been posted a 1000 times at least over the last 14-15 years LOL

very easy and cheap to make the drop down bracket

I have a question, I have found most of the parts you listed. However I am wondering about the

teraflex front bumpstops

and

2 hockey pucks per side bolted down to the lower spring perch

I have found many many and i mean many different versions of these.. What do you recommend? Teraflex, Size, hockey Pucks Brand / Size.

Thank you..

Teraflex is a company, you can contact them, I have bought several directly from them over the years
Hockey Pucks are hockey pucks, never seen any other size unless they were for small kids or something like that, just regulation size ones
I have 15-20 laying in the shop as I write this

I feel dumb now, I thought Hockey Puck meant a certain type of part that was just called a hockey puck because it looked like it, not that they are ACTUAL Hockey Pucks!

When I was doing my lift I went into a sporting goods chain store and asked if they had any hockey pucks. They kid gave me a blank stare then asked, "what are hockey pucks for?". I replied "hockey" and stared at him til he started twitching, it was hilarious! They didn't have any, I ordered mine from Amazon.

4 hockey pucks

I am getting the Upper A arms because I am also replacing the lower ball joints, and replacing a CV Axle. The Liberty has 215K miles on it, but I only bought it for $300 from work, it was my old work car. Still runs great! Figured since I have to tear into it anyway, why not lift it at the same time :)

Tommudd Do you recommend OME shocks / struts or bilstein?

Not much difference as far as ride overall , most would never be able to tell the difference
OME I think is a better built shock overall
I've personally had one Bilstein go bad, but it was one of the adjustable ( rebound etc adjustable rear) ones
But other than that heard of a couple of front bilsteins having issues on forums, never any OMEs
85% of the lifts we have done here have been bilsteins

Tom, I have Bilsteins (5100’s IIRC) on my 4” JBA lift. Still going strong after 100,000 miles lifted.

I do have a question though, thinking about when they do need replacing. The rears will be a simple swap, but the fronts are part of the JBA adjust a strut units. So, when one of those goes, what to do? JBA seems to be out of the lift business at least for now.

Are these the bilsteins you use?

Tommudd, I have another question. I have started my rebuild / lift of my KJ, seeing what I can keep and what I need to change. More due to cost. Upon removing the hub/Upper Arm/ shock. I noticed that the tire rod ball join is is great shape, no cracks, still stiff.. so I figure thats good to go. One question I have for you, could I re-use the Spring seats / Strut Mount assy for the new shock if they are in good conditon? Any reason i shouldn't use those?

Thank you

If they are in good condition, no cracks, not deformed in any way then yes you can reuse them

Do the rear springs alone give you the 2.5 in of lift?

Well, I am just about done with my OME Lift. Just waiting on a few parts here and there.. Tommudd I have been looking for new wheels, and from all the threads I have searched.. for the OEM 2.5 lift, the Wheels should be 5x4.5 in regards to bolt patern, and with 16x8 inch wheel, with 5" of backspace / offset. This will work with 265-70-16 tire size correct, and the 2.5 lift with the pinch weld pounded down? Just want to make sure I dont screw this up! LoL, I can work on cars, rebuild cars, but this is my first venture into actually changing a car/truck/jeep out of OEM! lol

*Update* Upon looking I can find tons of 16x8 with 4.5" backspacing and tons of 16x7 with 5" If I wanted to go with the 16x8 could I use a 1/2 spacer to make up the difference? What would be the issue if i were to do that?
