Could be a wiring issue as in connector contacts corrosion, could try a electrical spay contact cleaner.
Or more likely it is time to replace the Transfer Case position sensor.

The sensor is pretty common to go out. For the first year I had mine it wouldn't come on at all. The 2nd year it would come on and go off on it's own. Now it's on more so than off. I just ignore it, won't hurt anything as long as you know whether or not your in 2wd or 4wd.
