I have a new spare key/remote and wanted to program it, on pre 05 model years when there was a seperate sentry key and remote fob, the key and the fob had to be programmed seperately, now that it is an all in one how does the programming work, the owners manual has instructions on the remote programming but nothing that I can find on the key, is programing the remote the only programming required.

I found the instructions in the FSM, the key has to be programmed just like the previous years, just could not find the instructions in the owners manual.

Thanks

Might give this link a try.

http://www.wjjeeps.com/sentry.htm

As you know, our 2005's use combined key and key fobs, so I'm not sure this method works.

Bob, did you try programming the remote portion of the key fob. When I replaced my damaged one, (under warranty !!), I had to go to a dealer for programming because I only had one operable key fob.

I'm thinking of getting a spare also, and would like to know if the customer can program the key and remote if the customer has two functioning keys and fobs.

Bob, as I reread your post..I didn't address one of your questions.

When I ran one of my key fobs through the washing machine, the transmitter shorted out, however the key worked fine. It appears the transmitter and sentry key function are separate.

I tried to train the transmitter unsuccessfully before going to the dealer. I don't know if the method described in the manual, pages 28-29, is wrong (there's a shock!) or if it simply wouldn't work because my unit was shorted out.

When the dealer programmed my replacement key, he had to use a code provided by the manufacturer. I wonder if I can do the same thing myself, if I have two functioning keys.

As I underdstand the transmitter programming function you need to have 2 working remotes, since you only had one that is probably why you could not program the new one. I don't have a extra key/remote yet, waiting for it I bought one on ebay and I will try programming it myself using the methods in the owners manual before going to the dealer

I need to correct my statement per the fsm you only need one functioning remote in order to program another.

Bob

The following procedure can be used as long as one functioning transmitter is available:
(1) Turn ignition to the RUN position (allow ignition chimes to stop).
(2) Using any original (working) transmitter, press the UNLOCK button for 4 to 10 seconds.
(3) Within the specified 4 to 10 seconds, continue pressing the UNLOCK button and press the PANIC
button for 1 second, and release both buttons (a chime will sound to indicate that the transmitter programming mode has been entered - allow 3 seconds for chime to sound).
(4) Press LOCK and UNLOCK buttons simultaneously for 1 second and release.
(5) Press and release any button on the same transmitter and a chime will sound after successfully programming the transmitter.
(6) Repeat steps 4 to 6 to program additional transmitters.
(7) Turn ignition to the OFF position. Transmitter programming mode will discontinue after 60 seconds.
All transmitter programming must be completed within time specified.

If we have two functioning remotes, can we just program a third one and do we have to reprogram all the remotes at the same time? I noticed that when I programed the third one, the second remote didn't work anymore, as the third one was programmed off my original remote. Planning on giving the second to my fiance and third set to my brother.

Are these points referring to the new remote or the original remote?

I just programmed a new remote, I had to program one of the old ones and the new, I did not have to program the one that I originally pushed the buttons on.

In reprogramming a new RKE remote, I had to reprogram all my remotes, including ones I had in my possession already. The odd thing was everytime I added a third remote, the original wouldn't work after the programming so I decided to reprogram them all since I was in the program mode, FYI. It finally worked for me anyhow.

Welcome to the Site! I do not have a Panic button on my Remote Fob and have never heard of one!

If you lock the doors using your remote and then open a door using the key or open a door from inside...the alarm sounds!

This is a very old post Rigor Roper...best to start a new topic regarding your issues!;)
