2006 engine swap

Hi guys, I’ve found a 2006 KJ that needs an engine. I can get it dirt cheap and the body has 101k on it. My question is this. Can I use any 3.7 core from 02-12 ? Not sure what’s wrong with the engine so I’m looking at worse case. It’s at an auction and hasn’t run in over a year. I would be getting it under the table because it hadn’t sold in the last three runs. I know it hasn’t been running via the Carfax report.

I’ve located an 07 with 121k for a grand. But I’m tempted to go to pull a part and didn’t know if they’re all the same. The 3.7 was used in lots of stuff

An '07 engine should work in an '06 without major modifications.
I'm not sure if the 06 has an EGR system. If it doesn't, you'll just have to block off the EGR port on the 07 engine.

Thanks everyone, and great read hoosier. I will examine closely but for the time I’ll have allowed to do if I pull the trigger an 06 for a direct swap seems to be my best bet to avoid and issues. I miss the old days when space was the only real concern of what engine you could use.

Very true.... but those old days are waaaaaay long ago. Even 20-25 years ago you still had to contend with computer systems, transmission controls and module, not to mention ignition security that would prevent an oddball engine swap from starting.... and that was just in the 1990s!
