Thrilled with Replacement PCM!

Just bought 4x4 Liberty and she had a P0601 code - bad Power Control Module (PCM). I looked all over the net and found prices with flash from $100 to $238 for a "rebuilt" PCM. The $100 unit had a 30 day warranty but I wanted one with a "lifetime" warranty. Every vendor of rebuilt PCM's had lots of complaints - "never do business with again". But I finally decided on ballonstones on eBay for $138 including shipping with a lifetime warranty. The company is Flagship One in NY. Their feedback was 50./50 excellent/bad on the net. This was the best feedback I had found. Laid my money down, sent the VIN & mileage, got the PCM flashed, installed it and success! No codes and engine runs fine. Great result. When installing, follow these steps per Jeep mechanic who lives next door: 1. disconnect negative battery cable, 2. disconnect positive battery cable, 3. unplug wiring harness - 3 plugs noting positions (these have top & bottom snap release tabs), remove 3 screws and PCM. Installation is reverse order. PS: go thru eBay as the same exact PCM on the Flagship One web site is $199. Guess the $138 on eBay is competitive pricing.

I usually stay on the side lines but I took my wife Jeep for a play auto instead of buying a motocycle. I bought her a new Forester to replace the 2005 Liberty 3.7 Limited We bought it new and I am considering replacing the ECU it has sending erroneous error for years and it would be nice not to see the system light.

make sure the connectors to ECM are tight and not loose.

3k and counting...

3 months and 3k miles and no issues with PCM. Engine runs smooth - no trouble light! Happiness....

1. where do I find the part number of my PCM?
2. Do you have immobilizer keys? If so I take it everything works with the new PCM?

Happen to know if these are interchangeable? like 56044208AF can replace a 56044208AG? or did you order an AG and receive an AG? just an example.

Answered my own question. As I suspected, the suffix is software updates.

A couple months ago I bought one off ebay from the same company . The first one they sent me had a dead injector driver . I returned it & they sent me another one which seems to be working fine .
When I bought mine it said that their lifetime warranty was good for one return / refund then the warranty was null & void . In an email they assured me that if I received a defective pcm in the beginning it wouldn't count as my one return / refund .
Before I bought from this company I had asked about their policy concerning this because I had previously bought one off ebay from a different seller & received a defective unit . I returned it & they promptly emailed me & said the pcm was not repairable & refunded my money . They didn't offer me another one .
After my experiences I truly believe at least some of these companies have the ability to program pcm's but don't actually test or repair them . I think they pick up salvage units , program them & ship them out & hope for the best .
I suppose this is ok as long as they guarantee the units they sell . It was kind of a hassle going through two defective units before receiving a good one but in the end it all worked out .

I am now in the market for PCM just have a question about the the last 2 letters.

I usually see AI and AG just wondering if that release of the software will suffice or is AK the only one I must buy. Better yet to get the newest software release if availability. L,M,N etc. would be a better option.
My Jeep now is just for fun..beach, trails, off the beaten path and heading to functions. I have a connection with this Jeep and I hope to keep it until I die.

I will ask a different question is it better to pay extra for remanufactured plug and play than reconditioned. I am foregoing pulled units since the programming is a bit of a hassle.

I would go with the remanufactured rather than reconditioned.

I've been having what I thought was transmission problems--once warmed up, my 2005 KJ slips out of gear at intersections and then can lurch into gear, sometimes causing a stall. And on a recent road trip it suddenly would not shift above second on the highway. I hooked up a diagnostic tool and got codes P0846, P0700, P0731, P0841, and P1776. I had the transmission serviced, and all is fine mechanically. From what I've been able to read, I seem to need a new TCM, which apparently is part of the PCM on the 2005 model. Is this just a simple matter of switching out the PCM, and does it then need to be flashed by the dealer, or is it just a matter of ordering and installing it, as per the post at the top of this thread?

I'd start your own thread for this, it'll get more views than one that is almost 5 years old. Sometimes people see you posting a new issue (even if kind of related) to an old necro-thread like this and don't bother to reply simply because. But a new, dedicated topic will get views and replies.

I'm not as familiar with the 05+ models, which use a different control module communication system than mine... so I can't offer much as to the actual procedure.
