2009 Limited

Good morning, all.

I have two 2009 Limited models locally I am looking at. One has 90,000 miles, the other has 65,000. Prices are within NADA, so no issues there. My question is what are potential issues and/or problems to look for, or listen for when I test drive? I apologize I'm asking such a broad question, but being new to the KJ/KK lines, I've no idea where to begin, or what to expect.

When the new KK's first came out, they had some head/ valve train issues.
I would be looking for 2012-2013 as improvements were made.

Hi, I researched quite a bit before I purchased my Liberty. Here is a run down of what to check. Start with a good visual walk around and check the tires carefully as well as lights, the liberty in 2wd favors the right rear tire with power. When it’s driven hard that tire will be substantially more worn than the others. Check all oil and fluids under the hood (****** fluid needs special dipstick best checked by a technician). Check serpentine belt for cracking and look for leaks. When satisfied get in the vehicle and start it up, listen for any unusual noises like ticks, knocking, or exhaust leaks. Make sure all power windows work and power seats. Check moonroof or skyslider if equipped. I don’t recommend getting one with a sky slider(person opinion) Next drive the vehicle forward and reverse feel for any transmission shudder. Also make sure 4wd works if equipped. Get a car fax if dealer provides it or pay for one. You can use the myCARFAX app to check maintenance history for free if you don’t want to pay for a Carfax report. Also look for excessive rust underneath, some rust is normal kinda just use good judgment. Also, don’t pay NADA Liberty’s are not an easy sell for dealers, most sit over 30 days, they should be more than happy to negotiate.

especially for the one with 95k miles, I'd also look under the hood and look for signs of oil or coolant leaks. Would apply to the other one as well, but more prevalent with more miles.

definitely check to make sure the 4wd works as it should. Also, plan to change plugs, air filter, and belt as soon as you get it. Just a safe thing to do.

They discontinued the parts for the SkySlider, so I'd avoid that. Normal sunroof is just fine too!
Make sure the coolant is orange - if it's green that's the wrong coolant and it might have issues from that.
