New to the forum. New to 4x4. Just got my first maKJ.My main use is to tow it behind my Motorhome (already has towbar and brake buddy). I'm also looking to take some dirt roads mountain and desert (nothing crazy). Other than the towbar the liberty looks stock.
Can anybody give me advice what to upgrade first for off-road in Southern California.

Suspension!!!! I've seen a couple with the tow bar up front and it seems to kill the front suspension. Check all suspension ball joints and bushings, replace as necessary. And replace springs with OME 927 front and 948 rear along with either OME or Bilstein shocks. Browse the lift section of this site to answer most of your questions. But don't be afraid to ask either. You will get no nonsense answers with no sugar coating. A lot of really knowledgeable peeps on this site. You're in the right place. Welcome. And enjoy your new toy.

Some people will list everything as being necessary, arguing that the weakest link in the chain is where you'll get the break. For most of us, getting it all at once doesn't fit too well with our budget.

I'm with duderz7: Suspension comes first. That will allow you to get offroad right away - provided you are careful. Then I'd add armor. You'll still have to be careful, but your safety margin is wider.

And a lot depends on what type of terrain you'll be going over. If you're talking desert, armor will still be good to have, but not as critical as it would be if you're doing mountain trails. Give us a little more info on exactly what your offroading goals are. :)
