Smart Phone Dash Holder Tray ?

With no flat dash, I am thinking it would be nice to make some sort of framed phone holder, either screwed in place or Double sided 3M'd.
The reception would be better there as well, & use the Bluetooth to radio/mic.
Anyone done something like this before?
I wonder if a plastic tray could be utilized. Ideas appreciated.

I got one of those magnetic phone holders, put it just above and between the vents. Works great. I can even talk with the phone in speaker while driving.

Yeah, but then you can't see the screen.... my phone requires that I both swipe up and look at it to unlock. Even if it didn't, how can I use it without then taking it off of this shelf and then doing so, just to put it back on the shelf? I might as well just stick it back in teh cup holder or alongside the t-case handle.

I have always just gone with suction cup windshield mount deals with a short flexible arm.

I can move it wherever I want, put it in my work truck when I am not jeeping, and can flex it to see at any angle. There are thousands of version in the market these days, very low cost.

This is what I use:

But instead of hanging it from the vent, I ditched the hook and used a couple of screws and trim washers to fasten it to the knee panel just to the left of the front of the console. Works real nice. Holds phone and all sorts of stuff real nice.

That's nice, looks durable, except then you can't use it as a gps for those trips where you need navigation. You'd have the voice prompts, if the speaker isn't muffled... but no visual.

Yes, you are right. Never thought about those issues. I don't use navigators. I read signs and maps. Old school. And I keep my eyes on the road. Some still do.

Some states don't allow ANYTHING attached to the windshield, so check yours before you decide.

I have a ProClip mount for my Sirius and really like it. You buy the base for your vehicle and the mount for your device. Actually, I had one in my '93 Olds Bravada and I have one in my '05 Chevy Astro. They're versatile, non-invasive (they pop and stick in place, no holes in your dash or gauge cluster) and work perfectly.
