I just joined this site, it looks to be the best. I have owned 3 ZJs, but I really like the way KJs look. There is a 2003 KJ for sale near me that almost appears too good to be true. Any thoughts on this one? It would have a 4-speed auto, Corp. 8.25" rear and D30 front, NV231 or NV242, correct?

Doesn't look too bad, decent shape, Limited Edition so that gets you the leather etc

OH but not a D30, it is a D30a , yes some of the same numbers but different

thx, I'll do a little reading about D30a. I called the guy and he's a dealer with a lot, even though the ad shows under the owner tab. Vehicle is from Maine and has some rust. Nothing rusts here so if you shore it up, that ends it. Speedo doesn't work and shows 125k, so this KJ could have a million miles on it. Driver's leather seat has some 'minor' tears and both front seats are power/heated he says. He went down to $2800 on the phone with me. Guess I need to go look at it.

Rust is bad anywhere, can spread fast depending on where it is
speedo is more than likely the wiring that goes from rear diff up to body
check the rear part of the front driveshaft more than likely it needs replacing
measure from middle of the wheel to bottom of the flare on the left front, if less than 19 inches then springs and shocks need replacing
These are just some of the things you can bring up to get the price down LOL

I think I would want to inspect really well up on a lift from underneath, bright flashlight, to really get a better idea how much rust there may be.
That also allows for leak inspection ++
It may be worthwhile to have a private shop do a 100 point inspection, before buying.
