So I've been trying to track down an odor in the Jeep. Thought maybe something I bought for dinner may have fallen out while driving home from the store and started going bad. So I went through the other day and removed anything that may have touched food and left the windows down for a few hours at night. Still getting a smell. Talking with a co-worker today, I realized I never checked under the rear seats. So I checked after work and found this under the drivers side rear seat well:

There was a old pack of smokes in the puddle, which I think explains the brown color. The surrounding carpet feels dry, so I don't think it's coming from the door. Also, there are boxes and papers on the seat above it, and none of them appear wet or have been wet. Soaked it up with a towel, but was wondering if anyone can give me an idea of a source.

Not the water drain from the aircon?
I know on my RHD Export CRD that there is a rubber tube on the LHS that pours the condensed water on a hot day onto the pavement after stopping. If this hose falls off or gets blocked then it is known to cause the water to drain into that area but usually further forward!

Or else water being kicked up underneath somehow by the wheels?

Check the underside of the body for rust holes. Water can and will get kicked up from the road and soak the carpet. Also check the rear and side glass/doors for any leaks that may be coming in. The water will flow to the lowest point.

What I've always done is do a basic visual first. If nothing can be found that way, then start ripping apart the interior. Seats, carpet, trim panels, etc., then have someone use a hose and go around all the windows, doors, roof rails, etc., while your inside with a flashlight looking for where it's coming in at.

My '04 drivers side floor was getting soaked, bad enough that I had to weld a patch in. It was coming from under the roof lights (bad body repair from before I bought it), running down the A post, and onto the floor. My '09 Mazda3 had a trunk leak and it was coming through the side vent in the trunk behind the trim panel.

It can be a pain, but need to find it before more damage happens and get it cleaned up before mold sets in.

Wasn't air con, as up until the Libby, I haven't had a vehicle with a passably working air conditioner. Since I finally have a working drivers side window after 6 years, I drive with the windows down whenever possible.

I checked the door seals, and they were all solid. Also, the insides of the door carpet were dry as could be.

Found the issue. I had 2 gallons of distilled water in gallon jugs from when the radiator was leaking last year. One was sealed, but it only had maybe 2 cups in it. The other was nearly empty as well. They must have swelled in the heat and then sprung leaks.

I should look into getting something a little thicker to store water in or putting things like that into something like a tote, that won't leak if the bottles leak.

Glad it was only leaking from containers.
I noticed the wallmart ozark trail 6 gal water can u posted in what u did to jeep today.
Good deal, $14 and you should be able to keep that 3/4 full without issues.
The wallmart Canada site, has a similar one for $63 LOL.
Even though I have a collapsible 5 gallon water for picnic table, I like the idea of a harder casing.
I just found this 6gal one for $17.50 called desert patrol, green in color, better than nothing.

I'm pretty sure that's the same maker, as they both have Reliance on the side. The funnel is the same, also.

Had a HUGE rainstorm the other night, and everything in the jeep is dry as could be, so it had to have been the water bottles.
