Is this sound a bad fuel pump?

Hi all,
Noticed this sound when I got home today.
My gas tank is at half now.
Any thoughts?

Engine is running fine. I don't hear that sound when key in on position.
Thank you.

yeah. it sounds like air is getting pumped into something as well.
I tried to YT some sounds and it may be the fuel filter being all clogged up.

It would be nice to know what the fuel pressure readings are off the fuel rail. Key on reading, sat after 15 minute reading & running.
You are going to have to get under there, inspection time. Have a mechanical stethoscope handy to potentially pinpoint that air etc noises.
The filter could be the issue but the fuel pressure should be less if it has reduced flow.

Eric from Carparts.com here-

That does sound bad, strange that it runs fine if the pumps struggling or sucking that much air. I have heard of the in tank sock/filter deteriorating and slowly destroy the vanes in the pump but usually never gets that noisy or runs really bad due to fuel starvation. Good luck!!

Sounds just quit wow..did you do anything to make that happen, like maybe put more gas in or still at a half tank?
I also now remembered that there is more than just one pump on top of the KJ tank...

didn't fill it up. After that one day, I haven't heard that sound since but I'm still keeping an ear open for it.
I have no evap codes so i don't think it's the leak detection pump but I won't know until I get into the hatch.
I'm really hoping that my KJ has the hatch to the fuel tank in the cargo area so I don't have to drop the tank.

I'd definitely change the fuel filter when I do ever get to this job and evaluate the other pumps by it.

LOSTJEEPS has lots of info on dropping the tank. The CRD doesn't come with an in-tank pump and it's a common upgrade to install one and get rid of air-in-fuel problems. I believe the US models don't have an access panel in the cargo area.
